South Downs National Park Hike Via Black Down

Now that it's light till almost 6pm, we've got time to go further out from London to a really beautiful area of countryside in the South Downs National Park.

We'll follow an 9 mile circular route from Haslemere through some National Trust land with a nice mixture of forest and heathland. During the walk we'll go to the top of Black Down, the highest point in the national park where we'll have some spectacular views of the surrounding countryside.

At the halfway point of the walk we'll stop in the village of Fernhurst for some lunch. After lunch we'll climb slowly up towards Black Down. When we reach the top we can stop to take in the great panoramic views of the area.

After we've seen the view, it's a nice downhill walk to the pub in Haslemere where we'll stop for some well earned food & drink. We should be back in Haslemere around 5pm.

We'll meet at Waterloo Station outside the ticket office (the one opposite platforms 12-16) at 10am. We'll head to the platform at 10:20 to take the train at 10.30 which arrives in Haslemere at 11.20.

The price of the hike is £14.35. This includes:

• Return group save ticket from Waterloo to Haslemere (£10.35)

• Organiser's fee (£4) - the first 10 people to sign up just pay the train fare

Refunds

If you can't make it, change your RSVP to 'not going'. If someone takes your place, you'll get a refund to your Paypal account. If nobody takes your place you won't get a refund. No shows won't get a refund.

There are 4 places reserved for people travelling independently either by car or from another station. If you'd like to take one of these places, please email me. In this case you'll just need to pay the £4 organiser's fee.

Meeting point: Waterloo Station - outside ticket office

Meeting time: 10am

Distance: 9 miles

Trains back to London from Haslemere go 4 times per hour at 2, 15, 32 & 39 minutes past the hour. The journey takes around 50-60 minutes.

We'll finish the hike around 4pm. After that there are trains back to London 4 times per hour taking about 60 min. So you can easily be back in London before 6pm.
