TOTV Training Road Ride: 50+ Miles With Glade Park

On our march to get ready for the Tour of the Valley, we'd like to do another training ride this weekend, this time still in the 50 mile range, but with climbing. So we'll start in Fruita and ride the base of the Monument, then up the east side but to Glade Park and out DS road for a ways, then back via the Glade Park cutoff.

We'll meet at the Colorado Welcome Center (http://www.colorado.com/colorado-official-state-welcome-center/colorado-welcome-center-fruita), right near the Fruita Exit off I-70.

Wow, great ride! 54 miles, 4600 feet of climbing. We got our training in. Next time: 75 miles on the valley route. I think we'll be nearly ready then.

Nancy and I would prefer to stay on pavement the whole time since gravel is quite hard on our road tires. Hopefully we take the left turn to Glade Park just after Cold Shivers after coming from Fruita via the Redlands signed route which uses 340, S. Broadway and S. Camp ???

Yes that's right, but the cutoff, if we all wanted to do it, would be on the way back to the top of the monument from Glade park. As I remember there is about 1 mile of decent quality dirt road, all mild downhill. But it's all fine with me.

Randy, I don't understand the route. I am not aware of any rode across the base of the CNM from one entrance to the other. I also thought the Glade Park cutoff was a dirt road to Black Ridge, if that is the road from the Glade Park Store.

Hi Dave - We often do a Monument loop that involves mostly South Broadway and 340. (I'm sure you know that route and I just didn't express it right.) It works fine. The Glade Park cutoff is dirt for about a mile at last check, and we don't have to do that if people don't want to. It's downhill, so not hard, but if not preferable we can go the other way.

Yep, From Fruita its up along 340, make a right on South Broadway, another right on South Camp, and another right to Monument Drive. One long slow steady uphill climb until you hit the gatehouse. Not sure if I will join you all as I did 30+ on the Monument yesterday evening and am thinking of mountain biking this weekend when not painting my deck.
