Butterknife Mountain Biking (Intermediate, Strenuous)

Let's do Butterknife! We'll meet at the Third Flats trailhead.

This is an intermediate ride, relatively strenuous. I think it's 11-12 miles. There's a fairly long climb out at the end.

A good description of the route is at http://www.trailfu.com/mountain-bike/colorado/grand-junction/twist-and-shout-butterknife/Default.aspx

A google map of this is at http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=5194716

Directions to the trailhead: Take Broadway to Monument Road. The left to D Road comes up quickly. That turns into Rosevale, which eventually becomes Little Park Road. Continue on climbing and note that the trailhead for the Third Flats trails is approximately 1.2 miles beyond the well-marked "Little Park Trailhead."
Third Flats trailhead is on the left, but there are many signs indicating NO PARKING. We will park at the large totally unmarked dirt lot on the RIGHT about 75 yards BEFORE the Third Flats trailhead, this is where hikers and mountain-bikers park usually park their vehicles.

Latest update is that my warranty repair is underway and I am waiting on the part from Jamis. Hopefully I will be back on the trail by next weekend. In the mean time I have my road bike and "I'm not afraid to use it!"

Great to see everybody! So sorry about the bike Steve, but you know how to get 'em out of there!

Hah, you turkey. Donna showed me your comment about me and my bikes. ;-)

Did some checking and the Jamis lifetime frame warranty is on rigid and front suspension frames. Full susp like mine have a 2 year or 5 year warranty depending on the length of rear travel. I'm on the cusp either way as I purchased it new just two years ago. Guess I will find out soon enough.

I'm only giving it 3 stars since I had to hump my bike out for miles. ;-)

Randy, if I could ride with you that would be great. Let me know a time and I will meet you at your house.

I might ride up through the Lunch Loops (maybe Pedekes and Pre-nup) on the way up to meet at the trailhead for Butterknife. Let me know if you'd like to join up for that portion.

Pencil me in. Just got the rear wheel repaired and out of the shop. Some day I will have all the tools in my garage.... Just to clarify, we are parking at the actual trail-head before the turn off to the Butterknife area and NOT the dirt clearing directly across the road from the entrance?

I improved the description. We're parking at the dirt unmarked lot across from the trailhead (on the right, north side of Little Park Road).

Dan Bollig, if you want to carpool, we can take mine - or yours if you want. Either way.

Am thinking of riding out to the trailhead and then back to GJ afterwards- at a mostly casual pace.
