Happy Spring

  • Mar 22, 2013 · 7:00 PM

I remember about 25 years ago that on the first day of Spring, there was a group near the downtown area handing a flower to all the women and simply saying, "Happy Spring." I remember feeling great getting that flower and the memory of it stayed with me all these many years later. What do you think? It wouldn't have to be downtown - could be in a mall or whatever.

I would if I didn't have to work.

I think it's a great idea. Women in Europe use to get flowers from men on the street, when step into a store, police guys stop women driven cars and hand out flowers, and you get a small flower with your coffee in all coffee shops on International Women's Day, March 8.
    However , March 22 doesn't work for me, it's a Friday I'm working till 5pm.
We also need to think where to purchase flowers at a lower price. The price of first spring flowers is pretty steep. End of April would be more convenient, daffodils, tulips, lilac, we can get big bunches with $3.
I would prefer to meet in a park or a coffee shop, or do some hiking or walking and talking about the event, rather than talk over dinner. I would prefer to donate to someone in need or to a shelter the amount ($20-$30) spent on fries and burger.
    This is my two cents!

      Good thought about flower prices.

Let's think of something to do for Easter, March 31. Easter small toys or colouring books donation for some kids. There is an after school program for kids 4 to 14 in low income neighbourhoods in North Burlington, called Chill Zone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coGqiBKSjLo
Or visit a retirement home bringing some small Easter presents.
