After climbing steadily to the Pen Ponds with it's rare waterbirds, we pass Pembroke Lodge and climb up to King Henry VIII Mound, which gives us fine veiwes over Richmond and the Thames and on a clear day as far as Windsor Castle, St Paul's and the City of London. Descending into Petersham Park meadows to Petersham Gate, we then follow the Thames Path beneath the grand buildings of Richmond Hill the final stretch takes us into Richmond, which surely has one of the finest riverside frontages along the Thames.
