Yoga and hiking weekend in the Peak District

Log fires, oak panelling and great scenery all make this 17th century manor house perfect for weekend breaks in Derbyshire. Did you know that Bonnie Prince Charlie even slept here? The hostel is in a lovely, unspoilt area - great for walking breaks and we have our own private group room set aside for yoga practice.

The weekend will offer an opportunity to learn about yoga, improve and develop your practice and get out walking to enjoy the beautiful scenery surrounding the Hall.

There will be five yoga classes led by Samantha Yen Yau, a fully qualified yoga teacher and personal trainer and there will be walks on both days led by Kevin Blissett, who is a fully qualified Mountain Leader.

The yoga will be suitable for beginners and those who have practiced before.  Mats and a limited number of props will be provided for your use but feel free to bring your own mat if you prefer.  Any queries regarding the yoga sessions, please contact us.

Cost for the weekend £125.

£30 non-refundable deposit required to confirm your place with balance due one month before.

To book, RSVP Yes now and make your payment via Paypal.

Includes: Up to five Yoga classes, two good walks, 3 course dinner on Saturday, breakfast on both days and accommodation in small en-suite bunk rooms.
Does not include: Friday meal, lunches (can be arranged separately with the hostel, or bring your own).

We will also arrange lift share for those that are willing to offer it, or would like to share.

Walks

Hartington is a delightful village in the centre of the 'White Peak' - the limestone region which forms the southern part of the Peak District National Park.  There is extensive walking along the River Dove, Beresford Dale, Wolfescote Dale and easier shorter walking along the Tissington trail for example.  We will choose suitable walks based upon the weather conditions at the time.

Getting There

Suggested trains from Euston Station to Buxton, nearest train station:

Fri 14/3 depart 1520 arr 1814

(this would mean leaving work early, but arriving early and settling in and relaxing)

A pick up from Buxton for either of these trains can be arranged - please let us know

On Sunday, departure day, there is a train from Buxton departing 1629 (arr 1927), and we can drop you off after the last yoga class.  There is also a train at 1729 (arr 2027) just in case. Return tickets are approx £65-68 for these train times, bought in advance online at www.trainline.com

Thanks to everyone for making this such an enjoyable weekend. Great to meet everyone, walk and practice yoga all at the same time. Luck was on our side as it stayed dry all weekend amazingly, of course now it is pouring down in the Lake District! Oh and there was a grey Billabong belt left in the yoga room, so if you let me know if it is yours, I can post it back to you.

A Fantastic hiking weekend; big thank you to Kevin leading the hike and great routes with beautiful scenic views. Big thank you to Yen of the lovely yoga classes. The morning class certainly set me up for a good hike and the afternoon yoga was a great way to relief the stiffness in my legs. The group was lovely, friendly people to talk too and lots of laughs. Hartington Hall was a great place to stay, friendly staff and good place to relax and sleep. Big thank you Yen and Kevin for picking me up and dropping me off at the station. I will never forget this wonderful walking break in the peak district, well planned and friendly Hosts.

Hi Kevin, just wanted to check whether there will be somewhere to get dinner on Friday evening or if we need to bring this with us? Thanks, Tasha

    March 10, 2014

    • Kevin

Hi Tina, You can get dinner at the hostel until 8pm and there are also a couple of pubs in the village which probably serve until 9pm, which is a 10 minute walk away. If you want a meal at the hostel, you need to pay for this yourself, but let me know and I can book it for you.

      March 10, 2014

    • Tasha

Thanks Kevin, dinner at the pub sounds great, I'm catching the earlier train (arriving 6.14) so should have plenty of time.

Hi Kevin, I would like to take the last spot. Can I confirm that we meet as a group for those leaving from Euston Station (3pm) and then travel to Buxton or do I just find my own way from Euston? I would need a pick up from the Buxton station. Planning to take the 3.20pm train from Euston.

Hi Kevin, planning ahead, do you know if it's Buxton Market Place station or just plain Buxton for trains? I'll get my tickets in advance and don't want to end up in the wrong place :) I don't know the area well and can't seem to find out online… Many thanks!

    January 10, 2014

    • Kevin

Hi Tasha! it's plain Buxton (BUX). We will try to arrange pick ups from the station for those who arrive by train if you let us know in advance.

      January 10, 2014

    • Tasha

Thanks Kevin, that would be great, will get in touch again to organise nearer the time.

Kevin - Do you know how far it is from the station to the venue? Also, what is the name of our venue? Thanks, Mary Lou

    January 10, 2014

    • Kevin

Hi Mary Lou, we are staying at Hartington Hall and it is about a 20 minute car or taxi ride from Buxton station. We will try and arrange pickups where possible and will plan these

      January 10, 2014

    • Kevin

      Nearer the time.

      January 10, 2014

I have had a couple of questions now relating to food, so it might be worth clarifying. We have included breakfast for two days and one dinner to be provided by the hostel in the price of £125. We did this to keep things simple and so everyone can eat together. However, when we have final numbers in a few weeks time, I am happy to take a poll on individual requirements and what other options people may prefer.

  • Emma W

I have rather much a 'foodie' so i have quite specific dietary requirements and rather particular about eating only non processed nutritious foods. I cant find an email to inform you. Can you give me more information on what you propose for breakfast and the evening meal. Thanks

Hi Kevin, Samantha, this weekend sounds great, can you tell me what style of yoga Samantha will be practicing? Thanks.

    January 1, 2014

    • Kevin

Hi Tasha, no specific style as such but will be Hatha, with some gentle flow and also some Iyengar techniques. Hope that helps.
