Box Hill, Headley Heath and the River Mole stepping stones

Come and explore the beautiful Surrey hills and this area of outstanding natural beauty.

This classic walk takes us from Westhumble station to Box Hill where we can see some breathtaking views across the surrey country side. We walk through the Mickleham downs to Headley Heath and back to Box Hill before descending to the Mole river with its Famous stepping stones

Meeting point London Waterloo, 09.00 underneath the main clock. we will be catching the 09.25 train to Westhumble arriving at 10.11 £5.50 pp for a group of four people travelling together (please see below) organiser fee £5

Walk details The walk is 10m 16km with some steep hills.

What to Bring

From Westhumble station we walk to Burford Bridge where we ascend a stony path past The Whites to Box Hill fort and the Salomons Memorial view point. Following the track northwards through a wood  the views open out at Lodge Hill where we descend the steps to the valley bottom. The path now leads to Mickleham church before climbing steeply up to Mickleham Downs. We continue to the old roman road at Stane Street and onto the Gallops then the trail dips into the valley then curves up hill to Headly Heath. From the top of the heath we drop down to the Brockham Lime works where a set of steep steps take us back to Box Hill. A steep descent down 275 steps takes us down to the River Mole where we cross seventeen hexagonal stepping stones. The final leg meanders along the river through Burford Meadow and back to the station.

There will be an option to have food and drinks after.

Group Tickets, train times and prices.
Group tickets are normally available for groups of 3 or 4 adults traveling together As you arrive at the meeting place I will send you as groups to the ticket office. Please arrive early as it cannot be guaranteed that we will have complete groups of 3 or 4. In these circumstances e.g. 2 persons or less you will unfortunately have to pay full fare
Train times and prices are taken from the National Rail Website and are correct at time of posting the meetup, they are subject to change, so may be different. I do however update the website regualy and try to make sure this information is correct.
