Wimbledon Common, Richmond Park the river Thames.
We will be meeting outside Wimbledon park tube station at 10am I will be holding a meetup sign. Organiser fee £5
This fine walk with glorious scenery takes us to Wimbledon Park, less well known than the Common but very pretty, past the impressive chalet-style cafe and a large quiet lake. Following pleasant residential roads we enter Putney Heath, where we join part of the capital ring which takes us through Wimbledon Common with it's fascinating windmill
dropping steeply down past tranquil Queen's Mere we cross the A3 to arrive at Robin Hood Gate and Richmond Park. Hopefully we should see red and fallow deer.
After climbing steadily to the Pen Ponds with it's rare waterbirds, we pass King Henry VIII Mound, into Petersham Park where the meadows give us a fine view of Petersham church, village and the River Thames.
Following the Thames Path beneath the grand buildings of Richmond Hill the final stretch takes us into Richmond, which surely has one of the finest riverside frontages along the Thames. We will have an option to have a drink before returning to London
The walk is 10 miles 16 kms about 4.5 hours of
walking and about an hour for breaks, mainly on good paths with some small hills.
Please ensure you're happy keeping up a reasonable pace over this distance
