Meaning of Wushu:
Chinese Martial Arts is usually referred to as "Wushu", meaning literally "Martial Arts", in Chinese or "Kung Fu", which means "Accomplishment through hard work and discipline" (the meaning of Kung Fu is more generic and can refer to a high level of skill or accomplishment in any practice including cooking, music, painting, carpentry etc.). Trademarks of Chinese Martial Arts include movements that involve circles that develops momentum, speed, and fluidity. Also, TCM (Traditional Chinese Martial Arts) usually does not require the practitioner to be physically stronger or larger than his/her opponent, but rather emphasizes neutralizing or redirecting an opponent's force rather than using force against force. A third trademark is the emphasis on developing low and strong stances that are held for a long duration of time. This type of training, though many people are outdated, develops the practitioner's strength, firmness of foot, overall Martial Arts foundation, and functional Martial power. There are hundreds if not thousands of different styles of Chinese Martial Arts which vary in approach and application. To find a comprehensive look at Chinese Martial Arts try to Youtube the series: Kung Fu Quest Season 1 & 2. Though the TV series is in Cantonese Chinese and produced in Hong Kong, the lessons and sparring sessions and two man exercises demonstrate the approach and effectiveness of Chinese Martial Arts. Have a nice day! Also, read my bio if I've not bored you to death already! :)
