We discussed in the Jan 31 MeetUp that the next meetup would be an installathon for OpenCL. Hopefully we can do a bit of OpenCL overview as well...

We discussed using a regular day, on Thursday, and a monthly frequency. Feb 28 was suggested as a result for this MeetUp.

I suggest we use the last Thursday of every month as the going forward regular Thursday.

Once again interesting and fun! Thanks to all who helped make the install-a-thon a success. On to actual coding!

Hi I'm doing the OpenCL for Mac (which is dead simple). The actual walkthrough for a OS X system with X-Code is quick and painless. The only issue that I ran into is that the cl.hpp C++ wrapper classes won't compile :)

Hi guys, I am doing the Linux side of the OpenCL installfest and wanted to do a quick poll to tailor the info I am preparing. What distro's are you on?

    1. Apt-based (Debian/Ubuntu/Linux Mint)
    2. Yum-based (Fedora/Redhat/Centos)
    3. Other (Gentoo/Suse/Slackware/Arch)

RJ, I am going to assume you are on x64 (This way I don't have to think about 32bit distros!).

We'll be setting up OpenCL on Ubuntu 12.10 x64 using ATI/nVidia drivers and I will also cover Fedora 18 x64 on nVidia.

Actually, I'm on x32, but don't worry about doing anything special for me. cheers.

This site was very interesting to compare OpenCL performance: http://clbenchmark.com/compare.jsp

    February 3, 2013

    • Greg

This benchmark site uses OpenCL 1.1. That is really old. OpenCL 1.2 has been out for over a year, like it was released December 2011.

In case someone is interested, a parallel programming course just opened on Udacity. It includes programming assignments in CUDA. Check it out: https://www.udacity.com/course/cs344

Moving the date works for me. I had a conflict on the old date with another MeetUp, so now I can do both.

    February 1, 2013

  • Eric C.

Per Chris' email, suggested date moved to Feb 21. -------------------------
    Hi all,

John, who is presenting at our next meetup, is away the week of Feb 25th. I'd like to move the date of our next meetup to Feb 21, one week earlier. How does this suit everyone?

    Chris
