Tryon-minor reroute on Blue

  • Apr 17, 2013 · 5:30 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Fallen trees have blocked the North-South connector. A minor re-route will make the trail flow even better.

This will require some light benching and raking. Estimate a few hours of light work.

We should have plenty of tools, but if you have a favorite, bring it. Also work gloves.

Rode that short benched section we did yesterday and it's a lot better!

The original intent was to re-route around the huge tree that was down on Blue. It turns out, someone had already cut out an interesting passage way. The trail crew just did a little spiffing to make it safe and improve clearance. Awesome feature!

HUGE thanks to the great crew tonight!!

Thanks, Frank, for organizing this and for followup refreshments. I enjoyed working with a great team and look forward to more outings.

    What tools can I bring?

Rakes and benching tools like shovels. We should have plenty.

Looks like someone beat us to this job. I was in hiking Tryon Sunday morning and some one has cut out the lower big tree to open up the Blue trail.

That bridge did seem like it was sagging abit when I was in there last Monday before the rain started.

The Arched Bridge is a weekend job. The Tree is still on the Blue Trail so we are going forward with the re-route. Not sure if this rain will be an issue. Stay tuned.

Would you like me to bring my chainsaw for the tree(s)?

Chainsaws are not permitted. I have a good sized handsaw that we will use with tag team and elbow grease.

Looks like a big turnout for Wed night.

We may have a small crew of 3-4 split off and cut out the fallen tree on the IMBA trail. It's a good sized tree for a hand saw, but a small crew should could deal with it working in rotation.

Hopefully rain showers in the next few days will not result in a muddy conditions. If it's rainy, check back here sometime Wed for an update.
