Edible Wild Foods with Wild Foraging Expert

In addition to a walk through the beautiful, natural forests of Milne Park we'll be discovering, discussing and sampling various wild edibles in detail with wild edible expert Karen Stephenson.

"Wild edibles exist almost everywhere and are in abundance if you forage for them. Edible wild food has naturally grown in almost every corner of our planet for tens of thousands of years. Edible weeds, flowers and wild herbs were foraged and used as food (as well as medications); and they provided all the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients required for the human body to maintain good health. Foraging for food used to be the way to survive."

source: Karen Stephenson's website: http://www.ediblewildfood.com/

Please dress appropriately for the weather conditions and be sure to wear proper footwear. This walk is suitable to beginners and it shouldn't be more then a couple of hours long.

Cost: $10

If you plan on attending $10 is required in advanced prior to the walk. All this money will go to Karen for her time. She brings a wealth of knowledge in the area of wild foraging and I'm confident that you'll find the time with her invaluable.

If you have never been wild foraging I highly recommend that you attend this event. Not only are wild edibles nutritious but they also taste great!

Does anyone know when there is another edible foraging walk or a mushroom hunting group in Ontario?

    April 22, 2014

    • Colleen

Hi Kim. There's alot of upcoming events here: http://www.ediblewild... If you join the Toronto Mycological society, they have regular Spring and Fall mushroom forays.

I look forward to another walk, rain or shine. I was not able to make this one not due to weather or change of schedule, but due to work (an important meeting with change board for a bank).

Why was this cancelled on the same day? 28 people made plans around this. We were not even emailed a cancellation and people signed up for an interesting educational topic, which is not the same a s a walk in the woods.

I agree. Unfortunately Karen cancelled last night. I wasn't able to post a comment here until late last night. Everyone that has RSVP'ed should have received a message that it was cancelled with Karen.

thanks for the good walk. Even though the weather was king of chilly, but the walk atmosphere was very warm--Friendly people with nice talks is a add for the walk. I have learned that a scarf and a pair of gloves are needed for a winter walk today.:)

I apologize Kathryn but I am a professional writer by trade and I have several clients who have treated me very well. One of these clients had an urgent matter come up and begged me to help her with a project this weekend. I had no choice considering she is very loyal to me and has treated me very well. This came up yesterday and I did put a note in the comments (you'll see below). I am sorry for the short notice but this was an extenuating circumstance for me.

Hi everyone. As I'm sure most of you have heard something has come up with Karen. She is unable to attend today's walk. We will still go for a walk either way, however, there won't be a fee or discussion on wild edibles.
