Wine news | Pending AVAs- American Viticultural Areas

Houston, TX
Post #: 34

It has been rather slow this year, to date, in establishing new growing areas in the United States. In fact, there has not been a new AVA since Happy Canyon of Santa Barbera County was declared late in 2009. Here is currently what is pending, or recently happened.

The Pine Mountain-Mayacmas American viticultural area to be located in portions of Mendocino and Sonoma Counties, California has been proposed.

The Yamhill-Carlton District in Oregon has been proposed to be renamed the Yamhill-Carlton viticultural area. This AVA is located in Yamhill and Washington Counties, Oregon. There is no proposed change to the size and current shape of the AVA.

The Santa Maria Valley Viticultural Area has proposed to be expanded by 18,790 acres. This AVA is located in northern Santa Barbera County, California.
