STEPS Camp is in its 13th year of operation here at GVSU. It is an all-girl day camp introduction to science, technology, and engineering. It is aviation themed, so most of the activities revolve around airplanes, physics of flying, fluids, and forces. We also mix in some CAD, CNC, biomedical engineering, renewable energy, design & test, challenge course, field trips, and bowling.
On Tuesday morning of camp, the girls get to build their airplane components. There is a “tails” room, a “fuselage” room, and a “wings” room. Each room has multiple stations that are manned with volunteers. At each station, the camper will work on another piece of their plane. We need about 40 volunteers to make this successful. Each volunteer is only responsible for one little piece of the operation, and we provide training. We have two camp sessions: June 16-19 & June 23-26. Construction will be on the 17th & 24th from 8 AM – 12:15 PM.
