Announcing a new Meetup for Gainfully Unemployed!

What: Last *Free* Summer Film at Socrates Sculpture Park

When: Wednesday, August 18,[masked]:00 PM

Where: Socrates Sculpture Park
3201 Vernon Blvd
Long Island City, NY 11106

This film will be the last free movie shown this Summer at this location. Because I have a class until 7pm, I won't be able to get there until 8pm, so I posted the start time as 8. The film is supposed to start around 8:30, however, if you can get there earlier, I'd suggest it because the place can fill up and it may be more difficult to find a good seat at 8pm. Bring a blanket if possible. I will send out my cell phone number to the 'yes' rsvps so we can find each other. Also, from 7-8 they usually have traditional live music and/or dance.

August 18

2009, 117 mins. Directed by Ciro Guerra. A retired musician and his initially unwelcome teenage companion go on a journey across Northern Colombia to return a cursed accordion. Filled with heartfelt characterizations, and musical performances, The Wind Journeys, a favorite on the film festival circuit, captures the vibrant landscape and culture of the region.

Location: 32-01 Vernon Boulevard
Long Island City, NY 11106

Food: Colombian food will be for sale in the park but feel free to bring your own dinner and/or snacks. Alcohol is permitted also so if you want to bring wine that's cool.

Directions: Take the N or Q Queens-bound train to Broadway. Exit at Broadway & 31st Street and walk west, in the direction towards Manhattan. Stay on Broadway and don't turn; just keep walking straight until you get to the park. The street numbers should get smaller (i.e- 29th, etc.) and when you pass Crescent you will know you're going in the right direction. If you want to get anything on the way, you'll pass some stores and restaurants. (There's nothing right near the park.)

See you there!
