Pumpkin Picking 101

Since we would like to do the gutting and the carving of the pumpkins with Bessie (because pumpkin mayhem is always fun), we should probably pick out the pumpkins first. Want to join us for some pumpkin patch action, some cider and a good time?

I have to lock up the house and make sure the dogs go potty before I go since I'm house-sitting for my parents right now, so although I'll be a little late I will be there!

Ok Kathleen and I are on Our way to the farm! See you there!

Rocky Creek Farm is fine with me! And I don't think it's too far out of town. There's also obviously local places too - I have no idea how prices compare! Do we want to meet at my apt and then carpool to pumpkins? Or meet at pumpkins and then head over?

I can carpool as well. Makes sense, save money and we are all going to the same place

Hi again! It was brought to my attention that some of the dogs in the group are service dogs. I am sorry that I was unaware of this. In the past neighbors with one on the premises-even kept outside- were given eviction notices. Kristen informed me that landlords may have legal forms for this situation, but unfortunately mine are unavailable on the weekends. As the result of having any service dogs at my apt is unknown at this time, I hope you will understand my not being able to accommodate them today. I will note this for any future events and research my options in advance. I asked Kristen to maybe make this information public in the group for people who are trying to open their homes for events for the future. Sorry if this causes any inconvenience for today's events. :( The only other option is doing a last minute switch for location.

Hey not sure you saw my post in the other meet, but my house is free and dog friendly if you're nervous Bessie.

Can we change it to your place Becky?

Any idea how much picking the pumpkins costs? I need to know because if it's out of my budget I'll have to go buy a pumpkin at the store to carve.

    October 19, 2013

I looked at their website and it said it depends on the size of the pumpkin you choose...so I'm not sure exactly! I'll have a couple extra dollars with me you can borrow :)

No worries Meghan, my poor MSU employee budget may not allow me to grab one of their pumpkins and there may be a Smiths run before carving, but I have always wanted to go, do the hayride thing, have some hot cider, take a cute picture and such. It doesnt mean we have to buy the pumpkins there

Rocky Creek Farm in Bozeman has pumpkins right now. Not sure how much it costs to pick there though. Personally I like picking pumpkins sooner rather than later, that way they can be used as fall decorations before being carved. But that's just me!

What do you guys think for a date? We should do it near enough to Halloween that our pumpkins don't rot, but early enough that there's still plenty of good pumpkins to pick! Should we pick and carve the same day?

I usually just go to a grocery store, but I know there's pumpkin patches somewhere....
