San Francisco Waterfront Ride

Want to cycle in the city but feel uneasy about it? Join the Gals for an enjoyable, easy-going ride along Embarcadero from the Ferry Building to Chrissy Field and back. Yes, that means riding over the Ft. Mason hill -- but you can do it! We'll show you a route, provide tips for riding in the city, and have a relaxing ride.

Distance: About 10 miles. And we won't leave anyone behind.

Helmet required.
Basic riding skills required.
We'll provide SASSY instructions for Gals: Select a Bike / Adjust a Helmet / Secure a Bike / Safe Riding Rules / You Can Get Up That Hill!

If renting a bicycle, there is a 'Bike and Roll' rental place at the foot of Market Street by the Hyatt Regency. Please reserve your bike for 9:30 so we can pedal away from the plaza at 10am. We will return by 1 pm.

We are grateful for all the good work of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition and urge you join. A $10 fee is suggested for non-members of San Francisco Bicycle Coalition OR you GALS can join SFBC for a special price of $25 for a one-year membership (normally $35). Members of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition? No fee suggested.

We're excited to meet you and ride together. Thanks for joining us!

Questions:
1) Are you at least 50 years old?
2) Do you have your own bike
3) Will you be renting a bike for this ride?
4) How long have you been riding (most recently)?
5) What distance are you most comfortable riding: 1-5 miles? 5-10 miles? or 10-20 miles?

Lovely group of women, a fine day for a ride. Pleased we got everyone the opportunity to try out the MUNI bus bike rack. Thanks to the 3 MUNI drivers at their turnaround time who let us practice!

This was a great ride with a very affable group!
Absolutely no impact with the earlier Nike marathon
(they were LONG gone) and such fabulous views!
Thanks, Maggie for showing us the easy
cut through at Ft Mason to avoid the dreaded
hill. The practice on the Muni bus racks
was also great! I'm looking forward to the
next ride already and feel confident that
I could do this ride again with a friend!
    Thanks!

Alert: Signs posted on Embarcadero about marathon tomorrow. Street closures. Race will probably pass through before our ride, but has anyone checked out if this will affect us? Thanks!

Are all the rides on Sunday?

      Hi Kathy,

The weekend rides so far are on Sunday, since there are soooo many other rides and events happening on Saturdays. We could do a Saturday if there is a demand for that, I suppose. Also, we hope to offer rides mid-week, but so far we don't have a leader for mid-week rides.

I wish I could come with y'all on October 20, but I will be in Texas visiting my beautiful granddaughter. Next time, I hope. :-)

This will be a fun "cool-down" ride. The Foxy's Fall Century ride is the day before. Anyone else riding the full century that day?

    September 3, 2013

    • Maggie R.

I'm not. I do a metric century-length ride from time to time, but normally ride shorter distances. Hope you have a great ride!

Just saw your question about age. Under 50 is completely ok. Our goal is to reach us 'mature' women, not the generally speedy 20-somethings. Anyone who is ok riding with us older gals is quite welcome to join us.
