Ride Alameda and Bay Farm Islands

Join the Gals for an enjoyable, easy-going ride in the town and shores of Alameda & Bay Farm Islands. We will begin and end at the Fruitvale BART station. There are mild inclines at the 2 bridges we cross and otherwise the route is flat. We'll show you a route, provide tips for riding in the city, and have a relaxing ride. Guestimated time: 3 hours Level: A (<15 miles, mostly flat, both smooth and bumpy surfaces and a bit of sidewalk riding to avoid traffic) Distance: About 13 miles.

Start & End: Fruitvale BART station. Possible pit-stop near the end of the ride for ice cream at Tucker's or coffee at Peet's in downtown Alameda.

• We ride at a relaxed pace and won't leave anyone behind. • RSVP required. Helmet, working bicycle, and basic riding skills required. Water and sunscreen recommended.
(Not had your bicycle out in a very long while? Please have it checked over by a bike mechanic to be sure it is safe and reliable.)

• We'll ride on the road with and without a bike lane and on multiuse paths.

• Rain cancels. Will send a message via Meetup if we cancel to those who RSVP for this ride.

• Bring your questions -- Anything you want to know about biking? No question is too basic -- probably other Gals will have the same question!

We are grateful for all the good work of the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition to improve conditions for bicycling in San Francisco. We encourage you to check out their work and join. You can join at a ride for $25 for a one-year membership.

Great lesson we can all learn from. I would like to learn to change a tire tube when en route so as not to have a fear of a flat.

I am SO sorry I missed riding with you in Alameda Saturday. In my way to BART I blew a tire crossing Broadway at 40th. Learned a good lesson to share with us Gals: keep our tires inflated to the proper PSI. This number is embossed in the rim of your tire; can be hard to read but it's there. My tire pressure was down to 45 and it's supposed to be 100!! I had what's called a pinch flat..insufficient air in the tire and the tube got pinched against the wheel rim when I went over a bump. Plenty of those on Broadway! nevertheless, I had to replace the tube. It was totally shot. Next ride let's look up our tire pressure on our bikes so Gals can be sure you're tires hv sufficient air in them Glad you had fun. Did u get ice cream afterwards? I was all ready for my burgundy cherry cone :-( see u soon. Be safe on the road.

I paused to inflate my tires before I left. I live in fear of flats.

REI has a wonderful bike pump on sale. It's a stand up pump with the gauge at a higher level which is SO much easier to read. I bought one last year at the Labor Day sale and use it regularly. Only around $25 bucks!

Hi Kathy, sorry about your problem at Bart, and that you had to ride home without getting over to our starting point. It was a wonderful Alameda ride. Hope you can join us on the next City ride!

I've done this ride in the past and like it a lot. The 16th is out for me because I have plans already with a non-cycling friend. I hope you do this ride again. Have fun!

I'll be heading over to Alameda on Bart, and will post my "train time" closer to the date. Let me know if anyone wants to ride down the "wiggle" with me from Baker at Fell Street. Alameda is a fun ride!
