Game Ideas

Hi everyone, I am brand new to this meetup group, so I do not know what is already going on out there but I wanted to present myself and my ideas and see if anyone is interested in getting together to discuss them further.

I've always been interested in computer games. I have written some basic ones back in the day. But now really want to make something special. I have been playing a game at www.illyriad.co.uk which I have found is written in asp.net using html5 and various javascript libraries. The game has a massive community and has given me hope that using my existing programming skills are a viable option.

Games series that inspire me are the Elder Scrolls, Thief, Assassins Creed, Civilization, Guild, and Illyriad mentioned above. What these all have in common is that they are based on action, adventure, fighting, fantasy/medievel themes and to a somewhat lesser extent politics. Ultimately, I would love to create a game that really focused on politics more than hack n slash.

If anyone thinks that this might be a project that they might like to get involved in, please respond to this thread or contact me directly.

FYI, I am cross-posting this discussion to the Detroit .NET Developers meet up.

This sounds interesting. I can't contribute to the programming much (yet), but I'd love to help write the story for this.

Do you have the seeds of a game (or just a story/concept sketch) already, or were you looking for a group to brainstorm with?

I've got a game I'd love to work on called Pioneers of Aethora, but without programming abilities there's currently nothing I can do with it. If you're interested in taking a look, it's aethora.com. Be warned, though - the wiki is down because it got hacked, so much of the information is missing. If you have questions about the game, its world, or what we might do with it, just ask me.

I really need to start from the ground up. Meaning start with some storyboarding and develop a solid idea. I would like to find some people from various backgrounds to help develop the game conct.

As for Aethora, is this your game? What is development platform?

This sounds like a project I might be interested in the future.

Unfortunately, I don't bring much to the table yet (working on that).

No, it's not my game, but as it's currently not being worked on and I have worked on some of its story elements before, I have asked for and received permission from the original creator to take over development if I find a group interested. I'm not sure what it's been done in, but if enough people are interested, I can ask. Or maybe I'll just ask...
