Star Wars: Edge of the Empire

Set just after the destruction of the first Death Star, Edge of the Empire  focuses on the grim and gritty portions of the Star Wars universe. Characters exist in places where morality is gray and nothing is certain, and the game’s focus is on those that live on the fringes of both the galaxy and its society.

Well they are calling for 2-4 inches starting at 9AM tomorrow, so weather will dictate my attendance.

For me, weather is no longer permitting. I hope everyone who makes it in has a great time, and I will catch you all at the next session!

Anybody have any ideas for characters they'd like to play?

I'm going to have a Givin Outlaw Tech waiting, in case one of you has an "accident" on the way to the game... UTINNI!

OK, I settled in on what might be fun and helpful. I'm going to play Dak Malachi, an ex-Imperial tie Fighter pilot who deserted when he was tipped off by his sympathetic squadron leader that he'd be executed (falsely) for treason. Unbeknownst to Dak he tested for Force Sensitivity. Dak lit out for the Outer Rim where he thought his piloting skills might help him earn a living in the smuggler trade.

Character-wise, I'm just going to wing it when we get together. I'll see what everyone else is doing and then put together a character that plays well off the other members of the team.

As some have requested, here is a PC generator program for Edge of Empire: it seems to work well.

OK... I emailed the store in Blue Bell, since our group was getting quite large I wanted to make sure they had table space for all of us... they said they'd be happy to host us, but on the 14th they have a big Warhammer 40K tournament which will be taking up all the tables... he said the 21st is clear. Is the 21st doable for everyone??

Anyone interested in playing now or in the future (waitlist) should try and make it out to the first session... that way we'll have all the characters established and people can drop in/drop out easier. Once you get more than 6 players in any game it starts to really slow things down, but if things go smoothly and we have the space I am not opposed to more people.

I found this on the Fantasy Flight site:
    http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_minisite.asp?eidm=220

It is a dice app. It has dice for Edge of the empire, X-wing and the traditional 7 dice. Just 5 bux...

I have the app, it is quite nice.

    Getting the core-book on Wed...

Quick Primer on Character Creation/Options for those who haven't seen the book yet:

Races: Human, Droid, Bothan, Rodian, Trandoshan, Wookiee, Gand, Twilek (if theres some other race you want to play we can work it out) Your race provides you with starting XP and Ability scores, and you spend your starting XP to increase those ability scores, buy skill ranks, and/or buy talents.

You pick a Career and one of that Career's Specializations:
    Bounty Hunter (Assassin, Gadgeteer, Survivalist)
    Colonist (Doctor, Politico, Scholar)
    Explorer (Fringer, Scout, Trader)
Hired Gun (Bodyguard, Marauder, Mercenary Soldier)
    Smuggler (Pilot, Scoundrel, Thief)
    Technician (Mechanic, Outlaw Tech, Slicer)

Specializations provide a Talent Tree that you spend XP on. Later you can spend XP to buy additional specilizations (from ANY class) including Force Sensitive Exile.

    • Karl

Obligation is the other big decision... your Obligation is what drives your character, and you can increase your Obligation starting out to get more XP or $$ to spend on your character. For example, one Obligation is Debt. You have a starting value as a new character, but you really want that blaster rifle starting out.. so you increase your Debt obligation and pick it up. During the campaign that might come back to haunt you though...

      November 18, 2013

    • Karl

The adventure we are going to start with has the characters owing Obligation to a Hutt. I figured the easiest way to get started would be to start everyone with the same Obligation. Debt. You begin the game with a star ship and you got that ship from this Hutt, and now he wants to collect. Any further Obligation you choose to take will be up to you and separate from this Debt.

Let's hear it for Karl!!!! I'm very excited, Karl, because this is the game that I thought was really cool, went out and bought and thought I would never get the chance to play. Hell, I even avoided flipping through the rules because I thought it was pointless. So, yeah, I like Karl already.

    November 8, 2013

Glad you guys are excited! I am too, its a great system

    Hey Guys.. some information:

This will be an ongoing episodic campaign. we will start with some of the published adventures then move beyond.

The first session will be a character creation, learn to play, start adventuring.

Useful (but not necessary) thing to have: A copy of the Core Rulebook and a set of EotE Dice (or the Dice App) and a set of percentile dice. I have 3 sets of the special dice, and we can share the rulebook as needed. I will have character sheets.

Looking forward to it! Let me know if you have any questions.
