Iron Kingdoms RPG: Blood, Sweat & Gears

"Let's get out there, and have a bit of a dust-up."

Embark upon a journey into a realm where battle-hardened characters gird themselves in scarred mail and metal and take up their saw-toothed blades and smoking forgelock pistols, where steamjacks belch ash and upon the battlefields and the cobbled streets of cities and strongholds.   High-octane steam power and gunpowder is fused with horrific creatures, swordsmanship and arcane might.

The game has a much more industrial feel than typical fantasy settings but it does have wild places and plenty of room for wilderness adventure as well as delving into the espionage, proxy wars and so on going on between the various Iron Kingdoms.

Matthew: You should be all setup as "Event Organizer"...

Thank you much! I'll should be able to figure out the rest of the organization and invites shortly.

So...it doesn't look like I have rights to create a meetup yet, so for folks in my group, RSVP here: http://www.meetup.com/GamePodz/...

The date and time is certainly up for discussion. Thanks!

I think you guys should worry about bringing clarity to your "mission statement" and identity of your group. I'll work out the mechanical bonus for you based on what you guys develop.

Had a great time meeting everyone, really looking forward to next week. Though we should probably hammer out what we wanna do for our group mechanically for our adventuring company bonuses, right? Granted we could handle that on the obsidian portal site.

Y'all are a bunch of great guys. We're gonna have some fun.

Josh, I still have a spot in my group with 2 guys on the fence. If you're free, join us tomorrow and check things out, meet the people, etc. Hope we see you tomorrow.

I imagine it is to late up to join in this amazing looking game? But if either group loses a player I'll gladly wait for my time.

So, I think that we might be full up with my group at 5.

Cool, so Howard gets 5th and final spot in Ambler.

Lots of interest and we're going to do our best to find everyone a good place at a table. Fortunately, Matt has agreed to step up and run an IK group in addition to the group that I will run. Right now it looks like we have will have at least two groups. GM: Cole
    Location: Royersford
Players: Matt, Marco, Alex, Jared, +?

    GM: Matt
    Location: Ambler
Players: Cole, Michael P, Sam, Keith, +?

    TBD: Howard, Joe Z, Ryan

We can talk more on Saturday.

Imagine a couple hours for party/character gen talks. I'd be down for a couple drinks after.

Quick question on the actual gameplay. Is this going to be like Hordes/Warhammer in the concept of all the measuring? Or more like a Roleplaying Game?

    November 7, 2012

    • Matthew A.

As a result, models and particularly the base size is important. Picking up some Warmachine bases and putting your own mini or a marker of some sort on it will be important for combat purposes. I would recommend checking out coolstuffinc.com for single models. With shipping most are only $10. It's recommend looking at the mercenaries and minions (from Hordes) for good player models.

Matt seems to have nailed it, but just to build off the responses. The game itself is written so combat can be run with minis or without. It really depends what your GM and tablemates want to do. Like Matt, I see most play time being story and character interaction and then breaking out the minis for those few battles/session. As for picking up a mini or base, the store where we'll be, Stomping Grounds, will have some available, so it's easily sorted out. If you want to grab one online, that works too. Maybe seeing minis even sparks an idea for a character you want to play.

Here's a link to a fillable PDF character sheet that does calculations. Should come in handy when we sit down to hammer out characters.

We're going to split into two separate GMs/groups, so there's still room for folks to jump in if you're interested.

Innteresting. This gonna be two completely campaigns or are we two groups in the same local who have split ways? Been in games online like that but never seen it in person.

      November 4, 2012

    • Cole

The other GM (Matt Aaron) and I are working through particulars. One idea is starting in different cities, but both would still be a part of a linked campaign. More to work out on that. We have some initial notions of how we would split groups, but nothing set in stone yet.

If you can't make the party generation/ character generation session, you're still welcome to get in on the goodness. Just email/message me.

Setting up an initial for us at LFGS to meet, greet, talk party concept, and build characters. Thinking Sat 11/17 @ noon. thoughts?

So, from what I've gathered about the system from reading by candle light (huzzah for no power) the system seems very similar to the war game. I like the career system so far, but I fear that the combat will get bogged down with fiddly bits. I guess we'll see how it plays out.

    October 30, 2012

    • Matthew A.

It was more the free moving and measuring. But throw a few templates in the mix and I'm sure we'll find ways to speed it up.

      Sounds like fun.

This is the kind of thing that makes me wish I owned a car...very jealous. Picked up the book; it really is a great system and setting.

The first chunk of the campaign will be urban-based adventures, beginning in Cygnar. We'll work on a bonding party concept for your Adventuring Company as a group, and then players can build their character concepts around what serves the party and story . . . and is fun to play.

Very jealous. Picked up the book and definitely worth checking out.

Thanks, everyone, for your early interest. Looking for enthusiastic, fun-loving roleplayers, who are team-oriented and like to help their table mates to shine. More details to follow, but I aim to start in November. Sessions will run on weekends (maybe every 2 weeks, regular day/time to be determined by availability of people ultimately in our group). We will rotate venue to share travel/hosting burden.

Hey Cole, I'll be starting to look over the core rules soon. From the small snippits I've seen this looks like a really rad system. Looking forward to hearing other updates.

Jared, I started tinkering on the Obsidian Portal site for the campaign, if you want to get a feel. http://www.obsidianpo...
