Websters Saturday: Public Boardgaming Meetup Mark IX

Greetings,

This is the fifth in our monthly public meetups in the interest of:

• Allowing members to meet one another before committing to meetups at private residences
• Allowing for “all ages” events to happen on a regular basis for those who may not want to game when there’s alcohol, adult table talk, or adult-themed games present
• Allowing us to demo games in a public setting and, perhaps, promote the group publicly to draw more membership

This Saturday’s event will be held at Webster’s, a used bookstore and café in downtown State College. We will have the back room reserved which will hold ~20 people with plenty of overflow available in the general seating area. All you will need to bring is yourself, any game you want to play, people you feel would enjoy open gaming, and a pleasant and open attitude.

As with the last even, I’ll open a discussion thread where people can post games they’d be interested in playing or GM’ing and members can ‘sign up’ for a slot at the table if they desire. Otherwise, we’ll leave it to an ‘open table’ format where it’s first-come-first-serve for table space and people can pick up and play games as they are available and choose.

Webster’s has been generous enough to open their space to us during normal business hours so we ask that everyone be respectful of that fact.

As before the organizers will not be providing food and drink at this event because we will be at a private establishment. Instead of donating to the tip jar, we would like to encourage you to support Websters with that money instead by getting food or a drink from their wonderful café. If you choose not to, that's fine too, but outside food and drinks might be frowned upon.

I'd love to try out some new Powergrid maps. I'll bring USA if anyone wants to learn, and India/Australia if anyone is up for it.

I'd like to give Power Grid a play. No preference on maps.

Sadly I won't be there untill around 2:30 due to work, but am game for staying into the evening for gaming. Does anyone have any game-requests? I could drop something off early af Webster's for folks to use even if I am not there.

July 19th? You sure you didn't mean to say "June"? There hasn't been a "Public Boardgaming Meetup" since May 10th...

Unfortunately July is the correct date. I know that between moving, vacation, and a wedding this is literally my next available weekend of the summer and many of the other organizers are in a similar boat. With that said, the way that the group is set up anyone can plan and schedule a meetup. I know that the library isn't available on Saturdays over the summer and Websters can be tight, but if you know of any other public space please don't hesitate to get something else going!

Turns out we'll be in the middle of moving during this period. Have fun, everyone! We'll catch you at the next public event.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
