Vernon's Basic Fantasy RPG Game

  • Mar 7, 2014 · 7:00 PM
  • Vern's Place

Vernon's Basic Fantasy RPG campaign.

As this campaign is played in my home, space is limited.  Please, if you are not already a player in this campaign, do not sign up until you email Vernon to discuss the campaign's play style and available space.

Currently, we have three available spaces for anyone interested in an old-school style campaign.

A free .pdf of the Basic Fantasy rules can be downloaded at www.basicfantasy.org

Sorry to say but it is looking like a late night at work. I will be unable to attend!

You are right that it is not much different from what I'm running now; just more race/class options and more crunch (weapon specialization, multiple attacks). I'm considering it only because it's a system that more people may be interested in playing, and these class/level systems are what I'm comfortable/most experienced in running. But I see that Richard is coming, so we'll have three players Friday!

I'm available to play but with only two players it wouldn't be an ideal situation. I'll check out the AD&D link, but if it has even more races and classes than what you've run so far, it pretty much is all the same. What might I be missing that you feel would make it a different or better game?

Also, if we go with AD&D, I'll use the house-rules created by Chris Palmer available here: http://adnd3egame.com/cnc.htm

Jason emailed me that he should be available. Paul, I know you prefer at least 3 players, so we can finish the encounter from the last session or wait for Eric.

I'm a big fan of the social aspects of gaming and love a good story but I'm not a big fan of classic d20 game concepts (race, class and level advancement).

Paul & Jason: since Eric is out this week do you still want to play? If I don't hear from the two of you by Thursday evening, I'll assume the answer is "no" and cancel the game. Also, I've been thinking of how to attract a couple more players so we don't have these cancellations. What do you guys think of AD&D 1E? I've got a set of house rules for it that adds ascending AC and a few other modern tweaks to the rules and includes most of the stuff from Unearthed Arcana. If you think it's worth the try, I'll post on the Meet-Up forum to see if it generates interest.
