I also figured a minimum of about 3 months of training & sailing up & down the coast ( in decent weather )

I think if we got caught in a storm....we would be sunk.

Lets think about who gets what job.
You want my 300#s up in the rigging to fall on you?

Besides if we leave the house for anywhere close to 3 months...I think someone will move in on us.

    Fix the ship.
    Learn the ship.
    Study the ropes.
    Learn to navigate.
    Hire some sailors.
Figure a payout as to how much profit we need to bring in to keep her afloat.

Just the 5 of us is a skeleton crew for this size ship. We need lackey sailors to run the rigging, pump the bilge & clean the head.

    Any other ideas?

3 weeks for the cutter, 3 months at least for the ship if you stay in sight of the shore. But running with a minimum crew is dangerous.

And don't forget, you have a money pit, ahem, beautiful fixer-upper sitting a prime piece of coastal real estate awaiting your attentions also.

Scott - keep me honest here. Learning to pilot the small cutter would take several weeks, and the PC's would need to stay near the coast. Does that sound right?

cutters are easy if one masted....However setting a sail right and not losing it, that's tricky....in short you can be a lousy sailor in about three weeks...and a good sailor in about three years.

Thanks! I would imagine the ensigns would be willing to show the party the ropes (guess where that phrase originated?), and with some successful Int checks the party could "solo" their cutter within three weeks as long as they stay within sight of the shore.

Learning to work a 2 masted square-rigged sailing ship would take much longer, I feel.

      2. hire officers and crew, and act as the artillery

      3. totally subcontract the running of the ship, and wait for profits!

Pall. I hope you can make it to more games.

Thanks, Paul, for joining us. I hope you can join us on the third of September!

Yeah Paul that was real fun...you added a nice dimension with your Ham-a-phillic nature.

Is anyone adverse to me learning to be the captain of the boat? Obviously as a player, the sea is in my blood...and since my character is an elemental monk, I could see I nice tie in.

In the light of day, you can finally see the name ofyour ship. It is called "Sea Ghost".

Given enough pay, you might be able to eventually assemble a skeleton crew from some of the less well-off fishermen. They would expect to be signing aboard a trading vessel, and would not want to fight or break any laws.

Yeah, we can spend some time updating the PC's to the PHB. Sorry I missed these messages - Meetup is no longer informing me of activity on the meetups I created!

    August 20, 2014

  • M Scott S.

Did not yet get the new PH. Will you all have a copy for us to change stuff...and are we updating?

    August 19, 2014

    • Greg M.

      August 19, 2014

  • Tom C

    I would not ...yet.
    BTW
I need to find the time to finish updating my character to the new rules. I was working all weekend & did not get home till 8:30 Monday night...only partially done
