Gathering of Photographers Spring Group Show

Many of you are very talented and need to be discovered! Others are just starting and could use the encouragement of being exhibited. The competition to get into nice galleries to show photography is very fierce! 99% of photographers can only hope to find a slot at their local Starbucks to Exhibit photos. Truth is, Galleries rely on print sales to pay the bills and maybe have some left over to go to a movie these days, so they need artist who already have a track record for selling prints, which is why most photographers have a slim chance to make it into a main line gallery. I’ve been fortunate enough to show in several nice galleries and the experience was fantastic! Last year I opened my own gallery and have exhibited several great photographers. However, what was the most fun, was the group shows I opened up to The Gathering of Photographers in Austin. Everyone was so encouraged both times and many even made some money, which was just the gravy. The meat of the experience was seeing the work hang with other great photos and watch many others enjoy the work. The next show will be in Feb. 2010.

Here is how it works…First photographers will submit low res images via email ([masked]). We will select up to 100 images for the show. Once the show is set, a “Best of Show” will be selected. Best of Show will receive $500, a 30x40 print and their image will hang in the main front window of the gallery. Sometimes, if merited, there will be a “Runner Up BOS” chosen which will receive $200, a 30x40 print and will hang in the secondary display window at the front of the gallery. There will also be up to two Honorable Mentions selected as merited and they will receive $100 and a 30x40 print. Because framing has become so expensive , yet presentation is so important, the gallery will supply the frames. So, all the photographer needs to supply is a dry mounted 13x19 white matted print to fit a 20x24 frame by the deadline set. The gallery will take 30% of sales and the photographer will get 70% of sales…which is unheard of in the gallery business. Most galleries have a 50/50 split and a few have a 60/40 split, 60% going to the gallery. The only bummer is we have to charge a $100 exhibit fee for each image sell, the framing and glass we provide alone will save you the cost to exhibit, not to mention how rare of an opportunity this is. Let me be clear here, if it is all about the money, this show is not for you. If it is about the privilege and experience, then this is for you!

The submission deadline for the March show is February 1, 2010. Show selections will be announced February 5, 2010. At this time selected work fees will be due by February 10, 2010. Selected prints will need to be delivered to the Alpha & Omega Fine Art Photography Gallery by Feb. 18, 2010. The Gathering of Photographers Spring Group Show Opening will begin at 7 P.M. Feb, 20, 2010.

Feel free to call Leslie at [masked] if you have any questions. In the meantime email us your submissions via low res images at [masked]

Forgive my ignorance but what do you mean by 'masked'?
And how many photos are allowed to be submitted?

Thank you again for the opportunity.

Matted, not masked. Feel free to submit as many images as you want, but keep in mind we will only be selecting up to five images. I look forward to seeing your submission!
