Breathwork is a process that began in the psychological community, which over time migrated into spiritual practice. Today, Breathwork is a spiritual practice facilitating the opening and deepening of a connection between the mind, body and spirit. This is done in a group or individual session utilizing a variety of breaths to bring about shifts in consciousness. There is also an opportunity to bring about a deeper level of connection between the emotional, individual self and the spiritual self.
In this group setting, varying breath patterns will be used during the session to bring about an improved sense of well-being and a deeper connection to the self and spirit. Breathwork gets us in touch with our emotional selves, providing an openness and opportunity to heal and prepare for deeper spiritual work. Spiritual work requires us to be in a neutral emotional place, and breathwork provides the gateway to achieve this….
To understand the Breathwork process better, here is a description of what happens during the session. For this group, a two-hour period is planned. During the first few minutes, instruction and demonstration will be given of the different types of breaths. Once the session begins, the group is directed when to use certain breaths, supported by intentional music selections. During the one-hour period of the Breathwork session, there is a whole range of experiences that can come about because of the impact of extra oxygen on the body. Typically, during Breathwork there can be experiences of heightened states of awareness, becoming more aware of thoughts, behavior, and the emotional patterns that create blockages in the spiritual journey. What is important to understand is that even though this is a group process, the benefits derived from Breathwork is an experience of a personal nature.
