You do not have to be a registered AIDS Lifecycle rider to participate in the training rides -- so come out! But please do follow the ALC rules of the training ride ie, sign a ride waiver and come to a complete stop at every stop sign and stop light.
This is considered an beginner/intermediate climbing route, but you should feel comfortable doing the climbs along the ARBT to Beals Point in Folsom as a general precursor or have completed the Jan 21st Let's Get Climbing ride.
This ride is similar to the Jan 21st Let's Get Climbing ride with some additional mileage and climbing. We'll start the ride with an immediate climb up Folsom Lake Crossing then E Natoma, Sophia and another climb on Empire Ranch Rd. The route will loop around to the less steep side of Cote de Costco (Carpenter Hill) for the high part of the ride. From there it's downhill on Iron Point, then the flats of Gold Country Blvd. In the vicinity of Sunrise we'll head north over the Bridge Street bridge, say "hi" to the chickens in Fair Oaks, and hit the rollers on Sunset. We will work our way up to the American River Canyon climb and then head up San Juanita/Barton, get jiggy on Itchy Acres, and finally jump over to Auburn-Folsom via Cavitt Stallman and back to Folsom Bike. This route is approx 40 miles with 2400 feet of climbing (per Ride With GPS profile).
Pls arrive at 9:00 a.m. for stretching, and route information. All riders must be present for the Safety Speech at approx. 9:20. We ride out at 9:30. Please RSVP and let us know if you have any questions or concerns.
REQUIRED ITEMS FOR ALL ALC TRAINING RIDES (in addition to your bike!): A Bike Helmet 2 water bottles or 1 hydration pack (like a Camelbak)- 1 bottle should be filled with an electrolyte replacement drink. Bike, Frame Pump, Tire Irons, Patch Kit or Spare Tube, A snack (energy bars are good and quick!) and Identification. Remember to bring layers for the often nippy weather and something to snack on for the ride.
Katryna
will there be other bicyclists on the ride besides those in our group? Is there a turnaround point if I'm not up to 40 miles yet?
Hi Sonia - Any posted ride that says ALC Training Ride is an AIDS/LifeCycle Training ride. That means the ride is posted and advertised on their website and may include cyclist and riders who are training for that ride in June. As such, we must follow the ALC rules on those rides and that incl making stops at all stop signs/lights, safety speech and sign a waiver. If you doubt your ability to complete that ride, I would pass on it and opt for an easier ride to post.
