This will be Jono's birthday weekend and his first full day back in L.A. after being on a two week business trip in the South.
Ye Rustic Inn is a dive bar institution. A wonderful hole in the wall that has stayed neighborhoodsy for years while the rest of Los Feliz has instead gone chi chi. Before Jono lived at his current "Talavera House," he lived around the corner from the Rustic Inn in a quaint old apartment and used to hang out with his neighbors at this neighborhood haunt. Their menu is "bar comfort food" and they have always made great hot wings, their infamous-delicious and grease-oozing (almost instant heart attack) Myrtle Burger and their famous weekend bacon and eggs with Bloody Mary (and one of the tastier Marys in town) for only $8.
Jono and his last ex--nicknamed "Marky Mark Bearsy-Cub"--used to frequent the Rustic several years ago when they were considered the beer joint's first token Gay couple customers--so there is also a little bit of personal connection that he has with this place.
Jono arrives back from the Deep South late Friday, October 5 (which is his actual bday), but in just enough time to see the "Book Of Mormon" at the Pantages Theatre with his longtime best friend of nearly 30 years and renowned mosaic artist named Jolino. So Jono will be glad to recap his Southern trip and his own personal review of "The Book Of Mormon" at the Rustic while sipping his Blood Mary. Just don't ask him how old he is because he will not tell you!
FYI--he will also report back on his latest efforts to launch a smaller scale offshoot GAY WINOS--BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA during this most recent business trip.
Parking is free in the lot in front of the Rustic Inn. It is dark in the Rustic so when you first walk in, you might have to feel your way around for a few minutes.
