I'll be starting Wednesday night foreign / indie / cult movie meetups to be held at my place in Oakton (Fairfax, near the 495 & 66 intersection).
I'll try to make choices that still keep us at least a little bit in genre land (fantasy, sci-fi, horror, super-hero) but that are off the beaten path.
To start things off, I thought I'd screen Night Watch, a 2004 Russian film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Sergei Lukyanenko:
Among normal humans live the "Others" possessing various supernatural powers. They are divided up into the forces of light and the forces of the dark, who signed a truce several centuries ago to end a devastating battle. Ever since, the forces of light govern the day while the night belongs to their dark opponents. In modern day Moscow the dark Others actually roam the night as vampires while a "Night Watch" of light forces, among them Anton, the movie's protagonist, try to control them and limit their outrage.
Films will be shown using my digital projector and screen and there's plenty of comfy room for 6 or more people given the quantity of throw pillows available.
My phone number is[masked] if you get lost or need help.
To get to my place:
From points East / Southeast:
Take 495 N to 66 W
Take exit 60 for Route 123 Chain Bridge Road
Take the right fork towards Vienna
Continue right onto Chain Bridge Road / merge one lane left
Pass one street (White Granite) and one major entrance before turning right onto Jermantown Road
From points West:
Take 66E to route 123 Chain Bridge road exit
Take the left fork towards Vienna
Merge over onto Chain BridgePass one street (White Granite) and one major entrance before turning right onto Jermantown Road
From points North:
Either take 28 South to 50/66E or take 7 to 123 Chain Bridge road South.
If taking 123 south, make a left onto Jermantown road and follow directions from there.
Pass one street (Borges) and turn right into the next parking lot where it says 2817.
Park anywhere in the lot, the far building to the left when you pull in is 2817. Park in front of it and proceed to the middle front of the building where the awning is.
Call me using the building intercom (I believe I'm number 48, my name is Jonathan Cook in 403). I'll buzz you in.
Go through the lobby forward to the two elevators.
Take the elevator to the 4th floor.
Upon exiting the elevator, turn towards your right and follow the hallway to the end.
My door is on the left hand side and there is a woven branch heart. No heart, it's not my door <3
