This ride is open to everyone, but WOMEN ARE MORE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND. If you know of anyone who might be interested, feel free to let them know about it.
We will travel on lower-traffic roads, and the route will be between 5-10 miles, including the ride back to the start. We ride as slow as the slowest rider, and if you're not too interested in climbing up hills, the route will be relatively flat. If an incline is more than you or your bike can bear, there will be no shame in walking. This ride is perfect for less confident riders, people who want to learn how to ride, riders who are interested in socializing, and/or those who just want to feel better about eating a few extra calories because you earned it!
After all, what might be even better than this ride is a place to sit and relax after all that work! Brunch-y goodness will follow. We will eat at Big Kitchen Cafe: www.bigkitchencafe.com
IF YOU WANT TO ATTEND BRUNCH AFTER THE RIDE, YOU MUST INCLUDE A MESSAGE NO LATER THAN SATURDAY, March 15TH AT NOON to confirm the reservation. After Brunch, we will also ride back to the starting place for those who need to return to cars. What’s expected of you:
Even if you're waayyy out of practice, you should know the general concept of how to ride a bike. Please ride with the group, not ahead. You will not be required to wear a helmet if you don’t have one, but the use of a helmet is strongly encouraged. If you plan on joining the group for brunch, I need to know by Saturday (March 15th) no later than noon so I can make reservations for brunch. This is a regular monthly ride on the third Sunday of the month, so if you can't come this time and really want to, save the date for April 20th.
If you plan on driving, I admit I'm not sure how crazy the parking is on a Sunday at Balboa park, but there is information about parking here: http://www.balboapark.org/visit/parking If you are unsure of where the Bea Evenson Fountain is, here is a map: http://tinyurl.com/m8sjukd Please note: this event is cross-promoted, so Geek Girls may not be the only folks you see on this ride.
