Buy-Nothing Day of Crafts!

For years, Adbusters has proclaimed the day after Thanksgiving as "Buy Nothing Friday" as a protest against the crass commercialization of our society.

Let's embrace this concept of making due with what we have and get a jump on our holiday making! I have an entire wood shop, and most everything needed for metal working (torches, hammers, saw frames and blades, files), as well as space for people to work on knitting, sewing, or whatever crafty pursuit they might be up for.

Get the drop on your holiday list or get some lingering projects done. Bring what you want to work on and have a few hours away from the kids, the relatives, and the sales. Feel free to drop by any time during the day, and you do not have to stay the full afternoon.

I'll have some nosh and tipple available, but you are also welcome to bring snacks and drinks to share. Please let me know what you'll be working on so I can set up the appropriate space, and what you're planning on bringing to eat, so we don't have 10 green bean casseroles!

Happy holidays, Geek Girls!

I'd love to come! I'm off work early today, probably around 230, and can be down there around 330 if that's not too late..

Hi everyone! Hope you TG was fantastic. I'm going to be working on some drawings, cards, and jewelry--nothing too fancy, I don't require much space, just a flat surface if possible. Also, I hope to bring some kind of dessert. Definitely need sugar if we're going to be crafting, lol. Looking forward to meeting you all!

Hey, I'm pretty late to the party, but if there's still room it'd be nice to make cell phone pouches with company. I've got the supplies and it doesn't take much room, so I could just fit ..though if you do wisp

Thanks. My dad wants to see the Lincoln movie earlier, so I may not show up until 3 or 4, but hopefully I can get in some crafting. :)

Everyone! My house can be a bit hard to find, it is in a commercial area. My driveway is between a sign for a Notary and one for the Truck Stop RV Sales (NOT the other RV Sales places). Please park on the street and walk in. If you have heavy equipment, pull into my driveway to drop it off. You can call or text any questions to [masked].

Ladies, I will have ham/veggie burgers and drinks available. Please let me know what you're bringing to share (if anything) and what you're planning to work on. Thanks!

I'm gonna handsew. It's slower, but I don't mind it. Plus there's no way I'd get my machine anywhere.

Cool beans. I'm terrible at hand sewing! My stitches look like a 4 year old did one of those cards with a shoelace, but decided to put extra holes in it.

I will probably be a bit late. I will bring pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. I will be bringing felt and will need an iron to get those pieces ready. I will be doing a bit of hand sewing but mainly prepping because I am missing some key pieces. I may need to sew but I'll bring my machine if I need it.

I'll definitely have an iron at the ready; I'll be sewing as well. Do you need table space? I think I will get one of the buffet tables out of storage.

Oh, what time do you want us to show up? I see the meetup says 12AM. I kept thinking it said noon.

Haha, that WAS supposed to be noon. It's open, so whenever you show up, I should be around.

This sounds like great fun! I've really been wanting to try out some wood shop stuff, but haven't much experience (I do know the basics of power tools). Could you maybe introduce me to wood shop? I could also bring something else to work on. If you have a marble countertop I could bring leather tooling stuff and show folks how to do it.

Hi Anna, I can show you how to do some shop things, and if Jonathan is around, he'll be able to go more in depth on stuff. I will talk to him to be sure he'll be around. You should have a project of some sort in mind before heading out there. We have the stuff to turn pens/pencils, which is a pretty good project for a beginner, but if you want to do something else, let me know what you're thinking about.
