Post-Holiday Potluck Brunch & Gift Exchange (NEW MEMBERS WELCOME & ENCOURAGED!)

December flies by so fast, we here at GGSD usually just chill for most of the month. We all have families and events that take priority over hanging with (semi) strangers.

But January? Well, that's wide open! I do a lot of my personal celebrating in the first month of the new year, just because I can't stop the party. So, why don't you come on out and have one last hurrah of the holidays!

This event will function as a new member meet, a potluck, and a holiday gathering all in one! Everyone is welcome to come out to celebrate and make some new friends for the new year. I will have a tent with tables set up, and will provide some quiche and drinks. Other brunch dishes are welcome, so please comment with what you'll bring.

We'll also have a geeky gift exchange. Bring a small wrapped gift of $20 or less. It can be something you've made or something you've purchased, and we'll do a lot-drawing exchange. Try to make your gift something related to geekdom (though as we all know, that is very broad; use your best judgment). You are not required to participate in the gift exchange if you'd rather not.

My house is in a commercial district, so parking is generally plentiful. You can park in the Notary lot next door to my house or on the street, but please do not park in my complex's lot area. If you need carpooling or pick up from the trolley, that can be arranged as well; just contact me and I'll set something up.

Dress is casual to dressy, but be advised we'll be outside (under a covered tent, but still outside), so if it's chilly, bring a sweater. There should be heat available, but I cannot vouch for outdoor conditions.

Because of the constraints of my house, I strongly discourage bringing small children. I hope you all understand, and I am sorry that I cannot accomodate wee ones.

I am looking forward to meeting you all, as well as seeing some familiar faces!

Happy holidays to you and yours and much geekiness in 2013!

Cheers,
April

It was nice meeting people and talking about all our favorite things. Loved the tent and heat, esp. with the weather being moody.

Argh, slept through my alarm! Just woke up a short while ago. Will the event end too soon for me to be worth coming, or do I still have time to meet y'all? (20 mins. drive away, still gotta get ready). Thanks.

:( We hung out for quite some time. Unless there is a specific posted end time, our events usually last at least 3 hours.

I feel like everything is already being brought! I can bake some mini muffins, though. I have some new recipes I've been meaning to try out. And mini muffins are extra cute.

Totally at a loss on what to bring, thinking either raspberry tea cakes or beignets. Guess I should go out and get a present too.

Does anyone need a ride or pick up from the trolley? Please use this space to let me know and we'll work out ride share. I can pick people up from the Arnele Orange/Green line station.

@April, I'm thinking about making a breakfast pizza or two. Would I be able to use your oven? I'll provide my own baking sheet. :)

    December 30, 2012

    • april

Sure! You don't even have to bring your own baking sheet, I have flat air bottom styles and regular cookie sheets (no pizza stone though).

      December 31, 2012

    • Justine D.

Great - thank you! I will be making a veggie and a meat version. Are there any vegans?

I feel like I need another new member meet-up, since it's been so long. I have a meeting at 10 in La Jolla that will probably last 90 minutes, is it okay if I show a bit late?

    December 28, 2012

Not a problem! Looking forward to seeing you, missed you at brunches recently.
