Happy New Year, Geek Girls!

I hope your holidays were happy and serene, and that you’re ready to dive into a new year of fun and adventure. I have had a lovely December, and am almost ready to jump back into the fray myself (I am doing some post-New Year, pre-party cleaning this week, which is why it’s a little slow around here right now).

Speaking of parties, you know we’re having a big “holiday” event this Sunday, right? It’s at my house, and it’s going to be epic. There’s still some room left, so RSVP before Friday! All the details are here:

Also, being the start of the new year, I want to remind you how excited we all are when we have new hosts having new events! Each of us only has a finite amount of ideas and time for all the events out there, and GGSD wants to be a one-stop shop for you to get out and meet like-minded women, so I encourage each and every one of you to consider hosting something at some time in “the Library”, as the Bloggess puts it here:. Consider adding it to your resolutions. To that end, we have put together a list of tips for hosting events. If you have any wisdom you have learned as a host(ess) or guest you’d like to pass along, I created a discussion board topic for it, so please comment away!

Related, we are looking for people to sit on committees for events such as Harry Potter Day. This might include developing new events with specific geek focus, so please be in touch if you’d like to do something like this.

And now on to more serious business. I have slightly amended the rules of GGSD, to incorporate our new dues structure. You can find them here: and feel free to contact me or Sarah with any concerns.

As mentioned previously, we began phasing in our new annual membership dues late last year. To those who have paid, thank you for your support! I really appreciate the ability to do all the things we do as a group, and the small amount we’re charging will provide enough capital to do some more fun things. For those who haven’t paid, the $6 dues are due by 31 January. If you have any questions about this, please see THE FAQ WE DEVELOPED .  If you have any questions we didn’t address, please feel free to email Sarah or me and we’ll try to help you out.

So, again, all the best to you and yours. Let’s make this the best year 2013 (in the Library) we can!

PS: I apologize for not putting in nice looking HTML links, but sometimes Meetup just won't let me. I am also sorry if this looks like one giant block of text, I did format it, but Meetup does what it wants (it is the Honeybadger of websites). --art
