Wild nights in the urban jungle
Every Friday night in June and July, London Zoo opens after hours and invites you to explore the wilds of the ultimate urban jungle. Minus kids and plus booze - what's not to love?!
Monkeys go ape and birds of paradise strut their stuff with animal talks, improvised comedy, twisted cabaret, roving performances, pop up bars, street food festival, acoustic stages, carousel rides, the incredibly short film festival and approximately 17500 creatures great and small.
The big cats are taking over the capital in 2013
Zoo Lates tickets also include access to the brand new Tiger Territory . Delve deep into the lush foliage of the Indonesian jungle, as you get closer than ever before to one of nature’s most awesome predators, the Sumatran tiger.
Zoo Lates runs from 6-10pm and is an over 18s only event. No BYO glass or alcohol.
We went last year, it was a small group, but we had some of the best fun in the Geek Chic Calender! Imagine walking around with a glass of wine watching the lions and gorillas and we even saw a cobra eating a chicken! Ew.
Please put yourself on the Waiting List and let me know when you've bought your ticket and I will bump you up to Attending.
2. Put yourself on the Waiting List for a discounted ticket. If an existing Attendee cancels, I will inform you, in waiting list order, if a discounted ticket becomes available. It's not likely there'll be more than 1 or 2 cancellations, but you might want to take a chance.
Discounted tickets for Geek Chic Members are £13.25.
Discounted tickets for Non-members are £16.25.
(See below for how become a Geek Chic member. Payment for the discounted tickets will need to be made on this page by Paypal.)
We'll meet between 6pm - 6.30pm inside the Zoo gates, but outside the ticket barriers. For any late-comers, I will leave your ticket at the desk, but it's tricky because the actual 'tickets' are all on one page, so please do your best to arrive before 6.30pm.
I'll have a Meetup sign and my number will be in comments the day before the event.
OMG - I've been twice already and it's been so much fun, I can't wait to go again!
Meet other single people with shared interests while enjoying London's extraordinary science exhibitions, talks, stargazing and other events.
(Please note this is a paid membership group - see more at the end of this description.)
Our events are eclectic but might include talks or exhibition at the Royal Society, the Dana Centre, the Royal Institution, Institute of Physics, UCL or Imperial lecture series etc - these are almost always followed by a trip to a pub or bar afterwards. We also do regular visits to the Science Museum Lates and The Natural History Museum After Hours and the Regents Park stargazing nights. We do occasional 'Just Social' pub events too and a regular monthly 'Just Social' board games afternoon. And we love going to science fiction movies.
Although the interest areas in science and geekery are very broad, I started the group because
a) I felt it's still way better than the generic singles groups on here as at least members have similar interests to begin with and
b) it's a great way to find people to go with to the amazing science and geek events London has to offer.
The group is for people who:
like science! There are lots of generic singles socials groups on Meetup that do pub nights, dinners etc so please don't only join us purely to meet other singles if you're not interested in science.
are single! There are lots of very cool groups that are just for cultural/science/social events (**see the list below**), but I've set this up precisely for people who want to meet single men and women and don't want to have to work out whether another member is single...this group is specifically designed for those of us who don't have a partner to go to events with. So please respect that.
don't want to waste an evening at a singles event where there is no return on your time if you don't fancy anyone - yep, we've all been there. This way, we have a great evening out either way.
Please do suggest events, all members are able to schedule events. I for one am keen to discover things I might not think of on my own, so please feel free to contribute ideas.
And oh - please have a picture and complete your Profile Questions. It helps us identify each other, creates a friendly community, attracts new members and helps continue conversations in between Meetups.
It's free to join this group and come and try out our events. If you like it and stick around for more than 2 meetups, then Full Membership costs only £15 for a whole year. Our feedback is that even just as a listings page, this is more than worth the money! I hope you will join us and I really look forward to meeting you.
Other Meetup Groups
Please respect that this group is a SINGLES group; it's hard enough meeting like -minded singles in London without the confusion of identifying who is single. There are lots of other Meetup groups for non--single people to do sciencey social stuff, such as The London Funky Nerd Alliance and Science Museum Lates. There are also specific geek interest Meetups like London on Board and Interplanetary and Space Affairs. The Post-Apocalyptic Book Club welcomes singles and non-singles and they sometimes do sci-fi film trips. There is a big overlap of members with all these groups and all the organisers know each other and go to each others' events and sometimes our groups join up, both inadvertently and deliberately. So please don't try and sneak into the Geek Chic group just to go to our events if you're not single. It's not fair on people joining to meet other singles. We appreciate your consideration.
