Science Museum Lates

The Science Museum’s Lates is a free night for adults that takes place on the last Wednesday of the month. Lates are themed, spanning issues as far apart as sex, alcohol and climate change, but always contain science shows, a pub quiz, Punk Science comedy shows, the best silent disco in town (underneath real space rockets) and sell out speed dating. Dubbed ‘drinking and thinking’ by visitors, Lates regularly attracts over 3000 adults each night, with DJs and bars on three floors of the museum.

This month's Lates will be rocking and rolling to music. We explore science and technology behind music, with a lot of noise and interaction! Plus all the regular highlights, see below.

Also, a last chance to see our spectacular exhibition, Collider

(£5, special Lates rate).

Go to Collider page.

Come on a journey inside the largest scientific experiment ever constructed.

Buried deep under the border between Switzerland and France, CERN’s Large Hadron Collider is the work of ten thousand men and women from across the globe, united in their quest to uncover the fundamental building blocks of our universe.

Regular Lates Events

You can also expect the usual attractions including

• pub science quiz

• punk science (comedy)

• the infamous silent disco

• Web Lab, a series of interactive Google Chrome Experiments  that bring the extraordinary workings of the internet to life.

• the usual science museum exhibits - the whole museum remains open including Launchpad: their most popular hands-on gallery with a DJ and no kids to hog all the toys!

A lot happens at these Lates and it's a bit fragmented so the best thing is to just visit the Lates website a few days beforehand to download the brochure and pick your events beforehand.

PLEASE NOTE: The Speed Dating is still not running :-(

Meeting up

6.45pm. Please meet at 6.45pm at the Apollo Capsule (pictured below) at the back of the ground floor (past the airplanes and flying section) - there's usually a pop-up bar there so a good place to meet people and have a look around at the amazing exibits. Jobeda will have a Meetup sign.

If you miss us, here's the schedule:

6.45 - Meet at Apollo Capsule (Ground Floor)

7.15 - Planet Science demonstrations (Ground Floor)

7.45 - (Group 1) Punk Science (Ground Floor) - queue early!

8.00 - (Group 2) Pub Quiz (£2 entry) (Ground Floor) - queue early!

9.00 - Launchpad - We will all meet back together at 9pm at the third floor bar, by Launchpad. This gives us an hour to socialise and hang out at Launchpad (fun hands on exhibits) before they kick us out.

You can Download this month's guide and map to get a rough idea of what you'll want to do on Wednesday and whether you want to stick with the group's schedule above. You are welcome to do your own thing if you like and you can catch up with the group at the times above.

Visit the Lates website.

Hi, sorry but I'm going to have to duck out of this one. Tube strike making it too hard for me to get to south ken. Next time I hope!

The tube is running fine mostly. Just delays. I just got from Shoreditch to South Kensington (in morning rush hour) in the same time it normally takes about 45 mins. True I wasn't standing on platform for 10 mins like many others. So please give yourself extra time but the underground is certainly running.

Hi Adam, I schedule about 100 events a year, so yes, you've missed a few, but it doesn't matter. There's no need to catch up, just join us when you can. It's very informal.
