Science Museum Lates

The Science Museum’s Lates is a free night for adults that takes place on the last Wednesday of the month. Lates are themed, spanning issues as far apart as sex, alcohol and climate change, but always contain science shows, a pub quiz, Punk Science comedy shows and the best silent disco in town (underneath real space rockets). Dubbed ‘drinking and thinking’ by visitors, Lates regularly attracts over 3000 adults each night, with DJs and bars on three floors of the museum.

Visit the Lates website.

This month's Lates is all about making, hacking and doing. There’ll be lots of opportunities to get hands-on and create things.

Regular Lates Events

You can also expect the usual attractions including

• pub science quiz

• punk science (comedy)

• the infamous silent disco

• Web Lab, a series of interactive Google Chrome Experiments  that bring the extraordinary workings of the internet to life.

• the usual science museum exhibits - the whole museum remains open including Launchpad: their most popular hands-on gallery with a DJ and no kids to hog all the toys!

A lot happens at these Lates and it's a bit fragmented so the best thing is to just visit the Lates website a few days beforehand to download the brochure and pick your events beforehand.

PLEASE NOTE: The Speed Dating is still not running :-(

Meeting up

Please meet at 7pm at the Apollo Capsule (pictured below) at the back of the ground floor (past the airplanes and flying section) - there's usually a pop-up bar there so a good place to wait for people. Jobeda will have a Meetup sign.

Suggested Itinerary

7.30pm - Tinker, Tailor, Solder, Badge (Charge applies). Tinker with the parts, then tailor to your taste, solder a circuit and take away your brand-new light-up badge. Charge £2.

8.15pm - Dr Adrian Bowyer discusses the impact of the use of open-source self-replicating machines as a primary means of making goods.

If you find yourself splitting from the group, we will all meet back together at 9pm at the third floor bar, by Launchpad. This gives us an hour to socialise before they kick us out. (Also there are hands on galleries up there.)

Personally, I might take the chance to go to Robo Races.

Go home or often some people go to the pub.

You can Download this month's guide and map to get a rough idea of what you'll want to do on Wednesday. I will also have a timetable I will follow so you can catch up with the group at certain times for certain events. We usually publish a schedule a day or two before the event so that you can catch us at any point.

Visit the Lates website.

In case you RSVP after my email tonight, the summary is : My number is[masked] and I'll have a Meetup sign. It is usually pretty chaotic so please try to be at the events I have scheduled if you can't arrive before 7.20pm or you can't reach me on the phone. I will have the sign and we'll be wearing labels so you should be able to identify us at later events.
