If you are arriving later, I will be at the cinema from 7.45pm with your ticket.

If you miss us altogether, I will leave your ticket at box office with your name on it.

Group tickets are no longer available, but you can book yourself on the Odeon website for the 8pm show at London Leicester Square.

The film night of the year :-)

Because we are a geek group, this is a very special film for most of our community. We are therefore going for costumes and glamour opening night in Leicester Square in 3D on Thursday 13th December. Yeay! Swords and fake beards are optional.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

The story follows title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior Thorin Oakenshield. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain, first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever... Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths ofguile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum's "precious" ...a simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

Costs

Tickets are £20 if you buy one of our tickets on this page (I have bought 20 in the £20 price range, rear circle) or you can buy tickets in the £18-24 range (£16.60 for students) on the Odeon website plus 75p booking fee per ticket.

This film is in 3D - you will need to bring 3D glasses or buy one at the cinema for £1.

Please note: All group tickets are sold out, but you can book yourself on the Odeon website for the 8pm show at London Leicester Square.

Thanks for organising a really fun evening, Jobeda. The restaurant was brilliant. You guys were marvellous. The film was a pile of pants! (*waits to be hit by flurry of arrows from furious elves*) But enjoyable pants. Apart from the unnecessarily padded, drawn-out, plotless pants bits. Hours. But Gollum was astonishing, as always - that one scene pretty much justified the existence of the rest of the film.

The food was very good (5 stars for the assam fish fillet with steamed rice) and the film was ok (3 stars). It was the first 3D film I'd seen and I found the whole 3D thing a bit fake, like those tacky 3D postcards you used to get. You know it's flat but it's trying to pretend it isn't. I had one of a panda sitting behind a bamboo shoot and if you moved your head from side to side... But there weren't any pandas in this film. Lots of dwarfs and wizards, one of whom was Christopher Lee, which was nice. It was all very cleverly done, which was part of the problem for me. And there was only one woman in it and that was Cate Blanchett. If you're going to do a film with only one woman in it you should make sure she's not Cate Blanchett.

Hi ... where are we actually meeting at 6:30? The cinema? Any idea where we're off to for a prefilm drink? Moon Under Water is the closest pub, though nothing special... All Bar One across the square is usually to crowded and crazy... just be good to have a guess for any coming late, etc. See ya thurs...
