Evening of British Comedy

Let's get together for an evening of British comedy.  I have some new shows like Vicious, The Mighty Boosh and AbFab and a few classics like Open All Hours, Are You Being Served and Monty Python's Flying Circus.   I got a ton other shows too so I can take requests.   I'll have some light refreshments and a few British treats too.  Marmite anyone?

I'm curious what everyone thinks of 'Vicious' (besides it being soooo funny). It would be easy to miss the satire and interpret the show as an unflattering portrait of gay men. When it hits a larger American audience later this year, how do you think people will react in general? How will the LGBT community react?Do you believe it will simply reinforce many negative stereotypes? Would you feel comfortable watching it with straight friends/family?

Myself, I don't think I could watch it with family. My family is pretty uptight, and I think I would feel the need to explain or justify too much. Many of my straight friends would be great viewing companions, but just as many would probably take it at it's surface depth only.

I guess Dan will have to host a second night, giving us the opportunity to watch the remaining episodes! :-D

@ Burch--Yes, and if it hadn't been for moments like that, I think I'd have been much more uncomfortable with the show. There's apparently a rather "Gift of the Magi" episode later on that also indicates how much Freddie and Stuart actually love each other. I also thought there was a bit of intergenerational satire at play that was sometimes very poignant--and seemed to indicate that the personas Freddie and Stuart inhabited might have been part of a kind of social armor, rather than the core of their personalities.

Let's keep in mind that they aren't setting out make a show about positive role models for the LGBT community either. Just as AbFab didn't set out to be a show about a positive single mother relationship with her daughter, some shows are just a bit of fun and should be treated as such.
