Geocaching the Muncaster Mill Trail!

Do you love treasure hunts? Enjoy solving puzzles and deciphering clues? Want to spend a day hiking through the woods? Well, if the answer is yes, join me for geocaching this Saturday!

Across the entire world there are over 2 million hidden caches of various sizes. Using GPS (ie: your phone) and the hints provided, you must locate the hidden cache, sign the logbook, and revel in your success!

Register a free account at: www.geocaching.com

Download the free Android app C: Geo before arriving.

Make sure your phone is fully charged. I recommend wearing jeans or pants because some caches will require going off trail.

Map of Caches in the Area

Because geocaching is best enjoyed in small groups,  I will have to limit attendance to keep the group small.  If you no longer are able to make the event, please update your RSVP so those on the wait list may join. Do not wait until the day of to cancel your RSVP!

I parked on the meadowside lane side. Are we actually meeting on the other side of muncaster in that small lot?

I'm in front of a little building called Kengla House across from the Meadowside nature center sign. Not sure if I'm in the right place.

Hello, I hope you will allow this newbies to come to this event? I have said to myself a while when I found out gchaching - "self why go on something like this". Now is time! I am kinda of a big guy so climbing trees is out the question and I don't know how to swim; but I am pretty strong and I am quick thinker and I know how to drive, ride a bike and of course walk and chew gum!! Like an old movie I like said "I HAVE COME HERE CHEW BUBBLE GUM AND FIND THINGS" - well he didn't really say that but you my drift. Hope you'all get my message. Is there anything else to bring: I have smartphone, downloaded C:Geo app, have batteries, 35mm camera, water, energy bars, plastic bags and mini health kit. I now I will need more, please let me know.

Is anyone able to offer a ride from a metro? I live on yellow/green but can be very flexible and would be incredibly appreciative!

Could you make the green belt metro by 12:30? If so I can pick you up

I've always wanted to give geocaching a try, and I'm glad this is scheduled for a day that I'm available. I'll be driving up from DC and can offer a ride if people need one. I live near Logan Circle and will probably head up 16th St to Silver Spring, so I'll be near all five Metro lines at some point.

As long as it's not pouring, the event will go on. There's a chance of thunderstorms the entire day, so we'll keep an eye on the sky and wing it.

I'm not too familiar with the trails in the area, but this is on the MontgomeryParks.org website:

"The Muncaster Mill Trail where it crosses under Muncaster Mill Road to the Kengla House has been permanently closed due to excessive and cumulative storm damage. Park visitors can no longer access the trails south of Muncaster Mill Road from the Kengla House trail head parking area. Those trails can be accessed by parking at the Meadowside Nature Center. Improved connections in this area will be sought with the construction of the future North Branch Trail. - posted[masked]"

I'm assuming we won't be affected, but I just want to confirm if we are meeting in the right spot. :)

I believe it's referencing trails south of where we'll be hiking. But, I guess we'll find out tomorrow. If we arrive at the current meeting spot and it's blocked off, we'll re-evaluate and move from there.

Not sure. It depends on how quickly we find them and how long the trail is. You can eyeball the distance on the map.

How much territory do you expect to cover? I'm interested in going, but I've only recently de-sedentarized myself and I don't want to end up as a wheezing burden.
