Walkalicious v1.0: Toronto Trek + Sakura Plant Blooming

**UPDATE**

Greetings friends,

I have made a slight change to the meeting place. We will be meeting at the north east entrance of the park located at Bloor/Keele, a short walk from Keele subway station (exit station from East side and walk to the south west corner of Bloor/Keele (Keele becomes Parkside Dr. @Bloor).

Unfortunately I don't have Parking details for the area handy. If someone knows where there is good parking could you please post to this page? Thanks!

**End of Update**

I really enjoy walking, I lost over 50 pounds since March 2013 by just walking. I figured I would turn this into an event and see who else would be interested. hopefully by April the weather will be good. If it's not i'll push it back until its a comfortable temperature.

NOTE: It has come to my attention that this Walkalicious event has turned into Paradealicious lulz ^__^

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrQQZuLru9s

If this event is successful we can have regular hikes in the various parks around the GTA.

I need help choosing a Park if you can help plan our route your assistance will be appreciated!

Any questions or suggestions let me know.

I enjoyed the walk and socializing and getting to know people. The flowers were very pretty. I took lots of pictures. But the weather was too cold!!! Very disappointing.

Is it possible I can get a cell phone number to text? We will be at high park regardless and if the other meetup group we're signed up with falls through it would be nice to have a way to find this group.

So after setting the route I learned there is a parking lot at the High Park/Bloor Entrance :P Drivers can meet the group from there (the path set will go right past it) or walk to the designated meeting place at the Bloor/Keele Entrance.

Looking forward to seeing you all there!!

So it looks like we're just going to be hitting the end of the Sakura. Peak bloom was apparently mid-week. Should be great! Hopefully the rain and stuff hasn't caused too many to fall already. http://www.sakurainhighpark.com/ doesn't have a post-13th update.

They have an update in the Facebook community. The blooms are mostly gone due to the rain. It should be fun anyway.

Looking fwd to our hike tomorrow. Will we be walking the whole time, or stopping along the way? I'm thinking of bringing a cooler and some food for a picnic.

    1 · May 16

    • "Richard"

I'm thinking breaks will be felt out along the way... The end goal I think will be the Sakura trees. Then stay for hangouts in that area.

Sorry, but I need to know the location that the Geekalicious group will be meeting up.

And will someone be holding a sign or something to indicate that's its the right group?

As much as I was looking forward to this I am going to have to miss it - broke my ankle last Friday and I somehow don't think I should be walking too much, even with an aircast. Everybody take lots of pictures for me please, I am sad to miss the sakura.

High park has the cherry blossoms that start to bloom around this time. It would be pretty and have an anime connection of sorts to keep the event geeky :P http://www.highparktoronto.com/cherry-trees.php

There are many trails along the Don river, as well as a nice one at the Leslie Spit. Could always go to the Distillery to have a drink in celebration of the walk.
    :)
Pretty much all the cities rivers have paths nearby.

Sounds like a great time for me as well. I've been looking into a lot of parks in Mississauga to practice my kata, so I have no problem looking into parks in Toronto as well.
