Geekeasy Derby: May 2014

Geekeasy is a relaxed gathering of geeky/techy/creative types in Derby, who have an interest in learning and perhaps working together. It's very friendly, and you'll find an interesting mix of people to talk to.

Geek Speak (around 6.30pm): This month we're mixing it up a bit! Two of our regular geeks, Dan and Tom, are going to have a short debate-style talk on the subject of epistemology (the theory of knowledge).

Can we know anything? : an epistemological conversation

Since time immemorial mankind has wandered lost and confused. We have struggled to fight our evolutionary disposition towards inference, and asked 'how do we know?'

Tonight, two of the most intellectually agile minds in our great city will watch on, as two feeble-minded sycophants bumble around this great subject to uncover the answer.

After the talk we'll carry on chatting, drinking and chowing down on samosas. Invite a friend, and help spread the geeky word!

All types of geek are welcome: creative, technical, digital, engineering, science, space, web, design, chic geeks and even non-geeks.

I just told my boss that according to Dan and Tom, he doesn't exist so therefore my workload didn't exist either..... If I get sacked I'm blaming you lot lol ;)

Just started a new job a long commute away so not going to make it this month. I really enjoyed the first event I came to in March so hope to make it again sometime!

The talk sounds like fun - I did philosophy at Uni but it consisted more of drinking beer and eating Indian food.

On another note - If anyone is looking for a desk in a shared studio/office I have one going. It's great value and an easy month by month commitment. Join myself and Alex Davis - Derby based publisher and literary developer.

Also, if you know anyone who might be interested please pass this on - I can be tweeted @twohedz

Thank you, thank you, thank you - see you next Thursday.
