Data is a crucial technological enabler to the nascent generation of local commerce opportunities. Forthcoming geo applications will be built using re-purposed data orthogonal to its collection, and enriching it to become more than a sum of its parts. While the commercial implications are of course enormous, the geotechnical potential is huge. This talk aims to provide an overview to some of that hugeness, and introduces a platform-centric and open bias into what has been a very closed game to-date.

Dr Tyler Bell is Director of Product for Factual, an LA-based startup that has created a data platform designed to power local commerce – now with data on 60 million businesses and landmarks, and 500 thousand products. He used to do post-doctoral work on landscape analysis and the semantic integration of heterogeneous data at the University of Oxford but, more recently and topically, he led Product for Yahoo's Geo Technologies Group.
