True Pi Day (once every hundred years)

  • March 14 · 7:00 PM

Lets each bring a pie of our choice to some yet-to-be-disclosed lair, er, location (anyone have a home with the address 314 that we can gather at?) and just enjoy the number. We will be sure to have some pizza pie, but tasty dessert pies will be the potluck of the day.

Explanation for the event: Yes, the time is upon us. Everyone knows pi day is March 14th, but any true nerd realizes pi is not 3.14, but rather an irrational constant which continues infinitely in decimal expansion. Starting at 9:26:53 (.589... sec) AM, the longest extended Pi Day of our lives will come into action. The date, at the AM and PM hours, will be " 3/14/15 at 9:26:53.589.

Days like this only come once in a lifetime! It is understood 1592 was a ...better year. This was probably the greatest pi day in history. Every 100 years (1915, 2015, 2115 etc) come the next closest pi days. It is also understood there are other minor pi days (be creative). Yes, 22/7 is pi approximation day -- But it's not that accurate! I wrote this just for all you people who like to find missing details written in nerd events. I'm sure you'll still find more ;) If you're a nerd, you will invite ANY other nerd you know :D

Pi = 4*Sum[(-1)^i/ (2*i+1) ,{i,0, infinity}] = 4*( 1 - 1/3 + 1/5 - 1/7 + 1/9-...) This formula can be derived using the Taylor series for arctan via integration, namely arctan[x] = integral[1/(1+t^2),{t,0,x}] and writing 1/(1+t^2) as a geometric sum with generator -t^2.

Personally, I will lift a PInt of something tonight at 9:26:53pm. Good enough for government work ...

Wish I could. I have other plans though. Sounds like a blast (to infinity). There's a weird movie called PI that would have been worth watching with other nerds. Kind of sad, but cool.

PI was a strange movie; I think of it as equal parts Conspiracy Theory, Eraserhead, It's A Beautiful Life and Johnny Mnemonic. In black & white. With no tigers ;-)

I think the creator of the event forgot about this...

    Here's a pi-related posting from NotAlwaysRight:

    A Misunderstanding Of Pi
Pizza, Restaurant - Howard Beach, NY, USA

Me: “Hello, can I help you?”

Customer: “Yeah, I’d like a large pepperoni pie and a bottle of [soda] delivered to [address].”

Me: “Okay, your total is $***. That’ll be about a half hour. Is that all?”

Customer: “Oh, also, how much extra would it cost to have my pie be 16 slices instead of 8? Because I’m really hungry tonight.”

So far into the future. But I will try to plan for this as February comes to close. I can not resist pie or pi.

    I'm 10^2 (1- 22/7)% sure I can attend.

Will Minicon be going on that weekend? If so, it'll be the 50th Minicon, and would be the perfect place for this.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
