In this rollicking starship musical, loosely based on The Tempest, Mad Scientist Doctor Prospero is banished into hyperspace with his infant daughter Miranda and lands on the uncharted Planet D’Illyria. Featuring rock-and-roll hits of the 50s and 60s, a B-movie sci-fi setting, and dialogue borrowed from the greatest plays ever written, Return to the Forbidden Planet will have you dancing in your seat and laughing nonstop at this out-of-this-world production. “Shakespeare’s lost rock and roll masterpiece” is the winner of the 1990 Olivier Award for Best Musical.
Meetup details: This is a "Pay What You Will" night at Blackfriar's in Staunton. The show starts at 7:30, but it is first come first served so let's meet in front of the entrance around 7:00 or so to make sure we all get seats. There is no need to order tickets in advance and there are no assigned seats on PWYW nights. If you have never been to Blackfriar's it is a reproduction of Shakespeare's original Blackfriar's Playhouse. There isn't a bad seat in the house, the actors are fabulous, and as they remind everyone, they do it with the lights on!
