Philadelphia Museum of Art (map)
It's fantastic when someone in our life succeeds! Right? Well, as it turns out, a very special person to me has done just that!
I met Zoe Strauss in the late 80's (a Gen X appropriate period) when I had a part-time job on South Street (when the street was cool.) We would occasionally hang out or watch a movie and she was my PA Ballet buddy for one season. I knew she was remarkable but had no idea of the extent.
For those of you who don't know, she is now and has been for the past 10 years, one of Philadelphia's most talented photographers. Her work is amazing as it studies and records aspects of life before our eyes every day and reflects these images back to us in ways to which we are often oblivious. I can't express how thrilled I am that she is being recognized for her vision and perspective. How very cool is it that the Philadelphia Museum of Art has agreed to show her works from January 14 through April 22?
And in true Zoe fashion, she will be hostessing some dance parties at the Art Museum on certain Fridays from 5 PM to 8:45 PM. On this particular Friday, the party will be dedicated to Philadelphia music with celebrated DJ Cosmo Baker, who blends hip-hop, disco, rock, funk, and reggae while staying true to his Philadelphia roots. So come early to see Zoe's amazing photographs, stay a while to dance around a bit and then we can adjourn to one of the local watering holes for some "refreshments."
Even though I'll be here early, feel free to arrive as you wish for the party and exhibit. Or just join up with us afterward!
You will need to buy a ticket for museum entrance and that will put you out $19.50.
You can get more detailing information on Zoe here.
You can get more information on Museum admission here.
I hope you can make it!
I probably won't get there until around 6. Where should I look for you guys? And is anyone interested in seeing the Van Gogh exhibit too?
No Van Gogh for me. But I only speak for myself. Will email all with my mobile # so we can rendezvous.
Actually, it appears that the admission is only $16 if you pay at the Museum. There's a $3.50 charge for online purchase. WTF?
There's a guided tour at 6:15 PM! Not sure if Zoe is conduction this.
No Dogfish Head hat. Instead, a Triumph Motorcycles jacket of black and grey.
I have plans tonight, but for those of you who've never been there, Belgian Cafe is always a win!
Log in to Meetup with your Facebook account.
I'm thinking the Belgian Cafe afterward, but that's not carved in stone.
