There are times when online can't beat print. This month at GeoDC we'll look at some amazing examples of print maps (yes, the kind you can hold!) and walk through how to make them. Join us - Wednesday, August 6 at 7:00pm at Stetson's.
Here's our current lineup of lightning talks.
• Amy Lee Walton will demo Mapbox's new print tool that lets you design zoomable, interactive maps for the web, and then export them at high resolution to print anything from books to postcards to posters.
• Kennedy Elliott will talk about the approach she takes at the Washington Post when designing maps for print versus the web.
• Lauren James from National Geographic will show off some of their amazing print maps, talk design techniques, and explain when print beats out online in the world of maps.
Come out at 7pm to grab a drink and bite to eat. We'll kick off introductions and lightning talks at 7:30pm. There will be lots of time after to talk with our speakers and everyone else. Stetsons is a 21 and over venue. If you're not yet 21 but want to attend, message us via meetup and we'll do our best to get you in.
GeoDC meets on the first Wednesday of the month to learn, network, and talk about the work people are doing with maps, GIS, geodata, and more. Join this meetup group, follow @Geo_DC on Twitter, and join our Google group for updates.
