November GeoDC: Geo Policy

Recent local and regional executive orders require the implementation of technology and policy that deliver open data to be released to the public. We still have room for speakers, so if you'd like to give a five minute lightning talk message us via Meetup or Twitter at @Geo_DC. Here's our current lineup:

• Tim Abdella, GIO for the District will briefly discuss the recent Washington DC executive order and the impacts of the policy on the geospatial community within the District and broader.

• Barney Krucoff, Maryland's Geographic Information Officer, will briefly review the new Maryland open data law and demo two of Maryland's data portals: http://data.maryland.gov and http://data.imap.maryland.gov.

• Victoria Lewis, from Montgomery County MD, will talk about dataMontgomery, the county's open data plans, and the information they make available.

Come out at 7pm to grab a drink and bite to eat. We'll kick off introductions and lightning talks at 7:30pm. There will be time after to talk with our speakers and everyone else. Stetsons is a 21 and over venue. If you're not yet 21 but want to attend, message us via meetup and we'll do our best to get you in.

GeoDC meets on the first Wednesday of the month to learn, network, and talk about the work people are doing with maps, GIS, geodata, and more. Join this meetup group, follow @Geo_DC on Twitter, and join our Google group for updates.

    Greetings!
I am Atiq, I recently immigrated to the United States from Afghanistan through the Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) program. I was granted an SIV because of my background, my character, and my record of exceptional service as a GIS Specialist employee with the United States Government (USG) USAID Mission. I am a Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) with a Green Card.
I am glad that I joined the meetup group as it was recomended to me by one of my USAID Mission GIS colleagues. I am willing to find a GIS postion in Maryland or DC areas.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
