OpenStreetMap - Hosted by USGIF YPG

Have you ever wanted to start working with OpenStreetMap (OSM), but don’t know where to begin? Volunteers will give an introduction to OSM and the tools used. We’ll even do some digitizing! (Bring your laptops too). Thanks to the USGIF Young Professionals Group (YPG) for hosting!

Scott, thank you for your great presentation and nice to meet you.
Japanese OSM community is talking about OSM apps for Android. Do you know any good one?

Yes. I installed QGIS for android to my Nexus7 tablet. I think I downloaded apk file from here.

Great job at the meetup -- perfect blend of "hands-on" with our laptops and showing us stuff on the screen. And great food! Thanks so much for putting this effort together. Please repeat!

What is the software of choice? QGIS or ArcGIS OSM extensions?

I actually prefer JOSM. I'll talk about JOSM and Potlatch briefly but the intent is to help everyone understand how to use the resources so they can use any editor.

Scott, agree with you on JOSM, but I started out on Potlatch, and for new comers, it may be an easier introduction for them. Other interesting editors are being developed like OpenGeoData: http://opengeodata.or...

BTW... if you haven't worked with OSM before, a three button mouse is something I find very helpful.

I've volunteered with HOT (Humanitarian OpenStreetMap) for about a year now. Very cool group!
