Maps have been very fascinating to me since I was a kid. Plus by looking at a map I can quickly figure out where I am, so I my sense of direction is pretty darn great. In the past maps were hand drawn. Now that computers are here they are digitized and can be made on the computer. They could be used for spatial analysis, network modeling for making important decisions. This is where GIS comes in. The most interesting issues in maps are projections. The difficult part is choosing the right projection for a certain purpose, since there are so many out there. You have to choose the right color for certain things and they have to balance out. Thats what makes cartography, or map making an "art".
Hi, my name is Aditya Seshadri. I graduated from Salisbury University couple of years ago in the field of GIS. Ever since I was a kid, I have been fascinated with maps ranging from large scale street maps to small scale world maps.
