September 2, 2014-Horace Hamilton-President Northeast Atlanta Chapter GNPA

Horace Hamilton - We are thrilled to have Horace speak with us on September 2. We hope to have a big group of members and guests to greet him.  Below his bio are some awesome award winning images.

Bio information

Horace Hamilton

President Northeast Atlanta Chapter

Georgia Nature Photographers Association

I have been an active amateur photographer for almost 40 years.  In the early 2000’s I made the transition to digital and then in 2013, after retirement, I became much more active in photography as photographer, student and president of the NE Atl chapter of GNPA.  I have also served as a judge for photography contests both inside and outside of GNPA activities.

Our chapter has enjoyed exceptional growth in its one year of existence with average attendance of 40-45 photographers at each of our meetings.  We also now have almost 250 members of our NE Atl GNPA Meet-up group.  We currently have an exhibition at The Rectory in Norcross, Ga. which attracted over 30 photographers who submitted 133 images for consideration for inclusion in the exhibit.  Our PR officer, Rita Songer, has done an exceptional job of putting together the exhibit and assuring that it is well organized and professionally displayed.  Our Field Trip Leader, Stewart Woodard, has executed several successful field trips and has many more planned.  Our meetings include presenters on subjects ranging from processing to capture to where to shoot.  We plan to increase our activity in educational meetings; workshops on capture, processing and printing; juried exhibits; and more exciting field trips.

Topics for Coastal Georgia GNPA September meeting:

1.) Elements of an excellent image as seen through the eyes of judges.  An evaluation of images submitted for a recent exhibition and how some could have been made stronger.

2.) Building an energized, growing and exciting chapter.

Horace gave a very informative presentation on nature photography contests-the ins and outs of preparing an image, sticking to your theme, adhering to the composition rules, and much more! It was an enjoyable night.
